Here we go.
new global survey released this week by Ipsos and the Global Institute for Womens Leadership at King's College London, which surveyed about 23,000 people across 29 countries to only find out gen z males are twice as likely as baby boomers to belive that a wife should obey her husband,
Apprently almost a quarter of gen z males think women should not appear to independent and self sufficient as well as claiming-
31% of Gen Z men agreed that
"a wife should always obey her husband." in comparison to baby boomers That's more than double the rate as for those baby boomers apprently only 13% agreed that a wife should always obey her husband.
But there where more questions for gen z men and %'s like for example-
24% said a woman should not appear too independent or self-sufficient.
21% said a "real woman" shouldn't initiate sex.
30% said men should not say "I love you" to male friends.
And
33% of Gen Z men believe a husband should have the final say in important household decisions, because like we cant make them sorry gals were just to emotional for any real decison making i guess...
I ask myself and you might just ask yourself,, why? Why Are there more?
Whats causing this? Why are men embracing ideas that seem like something pulled from the 1950s?
Well there's are plenty if key factors like in today's age with social changes women are standing up and taking there own power back, more and more women are becoming less and less reliant on relationships to sustain themselves financially for survival because more and more we women are fighting back to gain our personal freedoms, wich many typical relationships stop women from having, though there are plenty of more reasons why men are becoming less and less agreeable towards women now that they are starting to face backlash from the same patriarchy that they have always benefited from as for some men, this shift challenges the traditional power structures that historically benefited them when a system changes and old advantages begin to disappear, backlash often follows..
Researchers and "sociologists" have also pointed to the influence of online spaces, particularly the rise of so-called "manosphere"
or
"red-pill" communities which often promote traditional or hierarchical views in regards to gender roles.
The only thing you must keep in mind with this survey is that it was a global survey and Because of that, the overall numbers mix together places with very different cultural attitudes about gender
So that claim that "Gen Z men are twice as likely as boomers to have traditionalist values" is technically true, but it's comparing global averages across very different societies,,
There was one last thing I wanted to mention somthing that researches called contradictory-
Many Gen Z men in the survey also said they support women working, having careers, and being financially independent. That's why researchers described the results as "contradictory attitudes"
people tend to support equality in some areas but still hold traditional ideas in others.
Theres allot more to delve into here regarding the whole Social media "manosphere" ecosystems especially when we at this point are completely aware that Platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram use algorithms that push content that gets strong engagement
and as we know content about gender conflict tends to perform extremely well, so it spreads quickly afff and
That means a teenage boys and men watching a few videos about fuckin
dating struggles,
masculinity advice
Or
breakups, will tend to be recommended more extreme material about traditional gender roles or anti feminist ideas, aka oppressive ideas where the algorithm gradually feeds more radical content.
Another notice was found that Gen Z men and women are diverging politically more and more, Young men are more divided, with some becoming more conservative
Whilst Young women are becoming more progressive, especially on gender equality in recent global surveys the bottom line is that Basically, young men and women are moving in different ideological directions within the same generation.
These big shifts can come from potentially gen z being
the most diverse and opinion split generation and also with
social change happening quickly like increased gender equality, there is sometimes a reaction where some people push back toward older norms.
It doesn't mean most young men believe these things, but a noticeable minority does, which shows up in surveys.
Lets keep going
as its been found from Ipsos and the Global Institute for Women's Leadership that the pattern isn't just about "Gen Z becoming conservative." It's more complicated and seems tied to
"how" young men experience social media, dating, and economic pressure
And One of the most striking things researchers noticed in the same survey from Ipsos and the Global Institute for Women's Leadership at King's College London wasn't just the attitudes of young men it was how different Gen Z women's views are becoming from Gen Z men's as this gender divide inside the same generation is growing faster than the divide between older generations,
So instead of generations disagreeing with each other in recent days as much,
you now have young men and young women disagreeing with each other almsot seemingly more.
In some countries the gap between Gen Z men and women is between 20 - 30 percentage points on certain issues, which is historically very large, just shows that women are finally biting back more, whilst back in the day for example
Baby Boomers had shared cultural shifts in the 1960s and 70s while Millennials broadly moved toward more liberal attitudes together,, and gen z well, it appears to be splitting internally, especially around-
gender roles,
relationships,
masculinity,
femininity
and
feminism
Some researchers think this divide could shape social trends for decades,, and I hope it fucking does i want us women to stand strong but anway they claim this divide could effect the following-
dating and marriage patterns,
political movements,
workplace culture,
online discourse.
Some like myself have suggested the largest future cultural divide might not be left vs right but men vs women within younger generations.
Now theres another contradictory thing i came across wich was this-
Even though some Gen Z men hold traditional views about gender roles, surveys also show many of them still say they want partners who are educated, ambitious, and financially independent.
So the attitudes can be internally contradictory.
which is why researchers are still trying to understand this semi new trend.
Now a large group of men have stated that they are discriminated against far more than women , and i'm just gonna personally say that I don't disagree nor do I agree with these men, anyway as a large share of young men have said that a large share of young women have said the same in regards to their own gender and how they face more discrimination its just this ongoing battle when to me, both struggles can be completely different Yet still incomparable to one another, again anway as you can see the same generation of both men and women are looking at society and reaching completely different conclusions about who is disadvantaged.
And with this divide it can potentially lead to bigger conflict,, yet in the back of my mind i somtimes think thats what us women might need if we want to stand on equal grounds with men whilst being treated with simple basic human respect for another individual, but again these sort of "harsh" debates between men and women bring forth can become much harder to resolve, because people are starting from different assumptions about the problem if that makes sense.
Whether this divide grows larger or eventually balances itself out is something researchers will likely be studying for years to come i assume and hope for, but What is clear right now though is that we are watching a generation try to redefine relationships, power dynamics, and identity in real time.
And when major social change happens this quickly, there will always be tension, backlash, and conflict before things settle whatever the next cultural norm fuckin ends up becoming.
Keep in mind these surveys were only taken by those with acess to them and those who where aware of it not all but many, as well as baby boomers many took the survey but far less then their gen z counterparts.
