Not sure how to feel.

Finally actually went to a doctor and got antidepressants, and I am going to be going to a therapist next week. Don't know if the antidepressants are doing anything, since I pretty much just started them, and I was already in a decent mood (hence why I actually went through with getting help). I've started actually talking to some of my friends about how I feel and stuff. Not 100% sure if I actually want to get better though, it just seems like the much less simple option. Don't feel actively suicidal at the moment, but I still feel like it's the better option. I don't know, didn't know where to post this but wanted to talk about it, sorry.

This is very admirable, just taking these steps must be hard but you're also right that it's easier to not get better. The allure of self-sabotage is a cornerstone of depression but it can be overcome with effort and care. FWIW, I hope the meds take well, and wish you immense luck in the challenge of opening up to a therapist soon. It's good to excise the nerves of this kind of progress in a forum like this one, I think

Thank you, means quite a bit to me. Wasn't sure how people would respond judging by what the forum is about, so I appreciate it.

12 weeks for the meds to fully help so make sure you take them for that long.

I'd suggest starting a medication journal where you keep track of start dates and any changes in dosage, any negative or positive effects noticed. If you're unsure how to quantify this, you could try taking a depression test every so often (once every 7-to-10 days, let's say -- I'd recommend the Beck Depression Inventory, if you don't mind its length). Then refer to this information in appointments.

This is the first step in a long journey, and it was a big one. Be proud of yourself for doing this.

Maybe you should treat yourself to something as a reward. (Yes, this is reward-worthy!)

Wishing you well with this.
