I think that the in the future we will have a higher quality of living, technology will render religion obsolete, MAiD will be more accepted/widespread, that robots will be common in households. My utopia is where there will be systems in place to make MAiD accessible to anyone and that psychedelics/consciousness-altering substances will be legal in most countries. Although lethal autonomous weapon systems, those things are scary.

That sounds true....but the way capitalism is progressing...I personally think it would be more of a dystopia for us...maybe flying cars instead of birds and advertisements in our dreams while we sleep...Who knows!

We are in the course of making our planet uninhabitable and I think our prospects are much worse than most people realize. We are cooked. Dystopia is an understatement.

The future offers only misery for 99 % humans. Suicides will skyrocket in the next 10 years.

There is no clear answer to this question.

There are many arguments that we are currently living in a dystopia and the question is: in which direction are we going?
To be honest, in many ways our future does not look good.

I do not believe in utopia in the foreseeable future. Another issue is that what is Utopia? People can have different ideas of utopia.
Someone's heaven may be someone else's hell.

To be honest, I believe more that humanity will experience different types of dystopia than that we will create some kind of "utopia".
Although it may be different, but certainly not in the coming future.

We turn only for dystopia.
Many states are already dystopia. France, U S , Israël. And many other states 😱

I think there would be collapse in which the end result ends up making this place uninhabitable

I think it's an open question, and how knows, maybe we never reach one extreme, or at least not for a very long time.

I think there are some very positive trends that show alot of humanity wants to make the world a better place. There are large numbers of people and organizations working tirelessly to improve the world.

But we have a lot of destructive impulses and have built some systems that encourage or exacerbate these problems. Some people have become very rich and powerful exploiting these systems, and have gotten more powerful as a result.

I don't know whether our better angels win out, or if greed and selfishness end up being too strong. I hope for the former, and wish I could stick around for a few hundred years to see which way things go.

Things will get better, then they'll get worse. Then they'll get better again, then they'll get worse again. Maybe somewhere in that cycle some permanent changes will be made, maybe not. Such is human history.

A utopia is impossible with humans.
Fully agree.
Dystopia, however? We take that shit seriously and are hard at work. Whatever humans can imagine, they can sadly recreate and it is usually not the good stuff.
And even the good stuff can be used for nefarious practices, ironically.

I think it will ultimately deteriorate as it gets further from the sun but human races future could be off world by then.. a sort of utopia I guess but limited by the inhabitable worlds we find or comfort deep space traveling allows...

For the short term... It'll go utopia in like a few hundred years to a few thousand but there'll probably be wars still and shit politics and slow technological progress for the masses. We'll be trapped in a dream of utopia when in fact, we've been lied to all along because yeah, you don't give power to just anybody...

If we have a technology collapse, we have to get back all the way to roughly today's technology level to retrieve them, which might be hard with the easiest natural resources already exploited.

One of my worries is that humanity might undergo an anti-technology backlash and miss its chance to colonize space, which in turn would miss its chance to save the world as the sun grows warmer. I started my science fiction on colonizing the solar system to show a positive future that humanity could aim for, and thus let the next generation know that the negative path is not the right path.

If civilization crashes and humans try to regain the ability to colonize space in thousands of years, rather than another species in tens of millions. We have to bootstrap to cheap photovoltaics without cheap fossil fuels (should be possible on biomass, hydro and wind, but non-trivial).

In the Omniverse all possibilities happen, so which future your current thread will see is best answered "both", or "yes".
But to the extent probabilities still exist, I am an optimist.

I'd like to believe somewhere it will be a utopia relative to today. I doubt the people there would think of it as a utopia though.

dystopia or it literally won't exist. nuclear weapons can wipe out humanity instantly even now. so, I don't expect it to be that long until our world turns to shit....it's been theorized that part of the reason we haven't encountered any other alien societies is b/c all of them self-inflicted extinction. so, the same is probably gonna happen to us. but before that, still think our world is going to deteriorate b/c of climate change and wars. but it might get better it terms of technology.

Unless something very unexpected happens, like a cosmic event wiping out life on Earth or us using nuclear weapons, I think the future will get only better and better, even if in small steps or even if having to overcome little bumps along the way. So, I think the future will be much closer to utopia than to dystopia, even though it will never quite reach it.

Just look at how much we progressed since the ancient times in terms of advances in science, technology and society.

We have anesthesia, painkillers, antibiotics, and we can perform complex operations...we have the ability to build homes, produce clothes, and provide ourselves with food to withstand harsh winters in a comfortable way, and we also progressed as a society. We understand democracy, basic human rights, and rule of law. We no longer allow slavery like ancient civilizations used to, we have computers, easy transportation around the world, and we all easily use trade.

If all of this could happen in just a few thousand years, then I cannot possibly imagine how much for the better humanity progresses in the next five or ten thousand years.
