Discussion How did you know of SS and what was your first impression?

I was just wondering so I made this thread.

I came across SS on Youtube, a channel called "Tantacrul" posted a video named "Encouraging the Young to Die - The Most Toxic Site I've Ever Seen". The video changed the names involved, but after searching it for a while, I finally find it here. Actually years ago I tried to find sth similar but couldn't so I gave up, so I'm happy to finally break in here.

The video, of course, like any other videos abt SS, saying that we encourage people to do this do that but I just know that's not the case. Imo giving "encouragement" like good luck or so isn't encouraging people to you-know-what. It's not like talking over and "I can fix her/him" would work anyway, so I don't like how people talk about the community here. But the community itself, It's great! I literally spend 8 hours per day recently just being on this site reading stuff.

I think I first found out about this site years ago from a yt video, like maybe around my early to mid-teens? I'm not sure if it was really about SaSu (memory is vague) but the contents of the video are similar to what you described; a pro-suicide cult website who encourages people to die. I think it also framed the members as perverts or something (or maybe I'm mixing that up with another video I watched about an SH discord server). Anyhow, at that time I had no interest in checking the site out and I forgot about it. But the idea of a site that won't judge you for being suicidal and shares information about methods stuck with me. I wished for something like that for a long time but I didn't actively search for it. I somehow also thought that all spaces like that were taken down

Anyway, fully discovered this site this year when I was finally actively searching for methods. I started on reddit, found out about Duckduckgo and the site Lost All Hope through there, then an ex friend of mine said that hanging can kill you pretty quick, got curious and searched more about that on Duckduckgo, then this site appeared in the results

I felt happy when I first browsed in this site. Like oh hey turns out the space I've been wishing for exists after all. I also felt touched seeing how supportive the members are and how people are helping each other out. Felt like I finally found where I belonged

I found it when I was looking for suicide manuals, especially that book "the complete manual of suicide."
I think my first impression was something like cool...there has to be some place that suicidal people can discuss potential methods. You can't talk to people in real life about any of this.

Same as you, youtube video. It brought so many new members to this forum, Probably the media that most spread information about this forum. It tried to hide the name Sasu, but failed horribly, it was really easy to find it.

I had this morbid curiosity, since i was also suicidal, to give a look inside the forum. Turns out there are some sweet people here.

Hey, me too! I guess it kind of popularized the site. I remember thinking how sweet that forums like these exist, especially nowadays. And also that the video didn't leave much room for thinking positively of it, so I searched it up. Though it's the most well done video on YT about SaSu. Then I lurked here for some time, then quit, then lurked again and finally made an account this year. I guess that's it... I think most new people on here got here from articles, videos, etc. That's even ironic that people voicing their concern (well, most of the time their resentment) about this site are the reason for more users every time

Same lol, I just actively searched for a community like that. Didn't know that so many people come here because of YT videos intending to do the opposite.

it's high-key ironic that the video meant to "warn" people about this site is the reason i found out about it in the first place and one day decided to register i feel like so many people here, including me, know about SS because of Tantacrul or similar videos like the one he made

I had known about the term "sanctioned suicide" from my Facebook days of consuming pessimistic, nihilistic, pro-euthanasia, antinatalist content.

I think perhaps I just Googled the term and had initially joined in 2021, but I've since forgotten that username.

I found out about it about a year ago through a YouTube video or some kind of news article. I don't remember which. The content I saw really misrepresented the site. It made it out to be this place where all it was was a place where people were giving step by step instructions on how to do and encouraging everyone to do it right away. It made it seem like every single poster was evil. They redacted the site name. I had to do a bit of skunk work to find it. I found this site to be supportive and to my surprise I found there is no 100% pain-free foolproof method to ctb.

I found this forum thanks to that article from The New York Times. It's pretty ironic that they want to get rid of this website to reduce suicides, but they also straight up mentioned the website name in the article.

i found it through that video too. i couldn't even finish watching it, because i thought he sounded like a virtue signaling asshole who doesn't actually care about mentally ill/suicidal people and would rather jerk off to himself being a 'good person'. it's a shame because I'd watched his other videos before and they were alright.

Found through one of my insomnia driven rabbit holes - Started off diving into Clavicular and the looksmaxxing phenomenon, which eventually took me into the incel community/forums, and someone on there had posted a link to here and the rest is history as they say.

First impression was - for what can be seen as quite a dark and polarising topic, everyone in the community seemed so caring and lovely. I wish I had known about this in the past when I was at my worst, as a genuinely caring community that understands is exactly what I needed. Glad to have found it eventually though

the days prior signing up i was looking for as much information on my method available as possible, as id already written my letter and wanted to either horrify myself out of it or at least figure out how to not mess it up, gore sites, lostallhope, sites with methods, then somewhere i saw 'sasu archives' mentioned for further information. and i checked out the website and later i signed up. so here i am.



funnily enough, i saw *that infamous video* back in February 2023, i just put it on as background noise because it seemed interesting, thought nothing of it, forgot about it, so LOL. subtle foreshadowing

Huh. I found this site in 2021. I was pretty devastated from my father's death and the complete and total decline of my mother's health after his death. Lost a bunch of his inherited wealth, moved places, college... stupid stuff that should not make anyone be that depressed but it was all stacked on top of each other with his death as a foundation so there I was looking for any place for suicide support.

I remember logging in and dipping because to me, at the time, killing myself is just going to inflict more pain to this family instead of reducing it the way that I should as any good child would do.

Logged in again after my ex's death in 2025. My fears were kind of confirmed? This site is wayyyy to liberal with separating between suicidal people who want to die and suicidal people who want to recover and the weird ahh users who, I think, from my point of view, encourage people to just say "fuck it" and die.

Whatever the hell they can do, New Posts should just be removed imo because vulnerable users can literally see a mix of Methods and Suicide Discussions among Off Topics and Recovery. I don't know. Just a suggestion. I know that this menu's subsection is to make it easier for people to access the threads in this site but having the new threads mixed up like this goes against what this site is supposed to be for: a place for suicidal people to bond and recover instead of to look for methods and encouragements to off themselves.

I've known about this site for a few years. I would come across links to it whenever I searched for methods during periods of suicidal ideation, and I would always browse a little out of curiosity. Recently decided to take the plunge and join as a member.

My first impressions... well, while it was distressing seeing so many people experiencing such pain and hopelessness, at the same time it was also really nice to see others I could relate to on such a level.
