I'm really into Jung and dream interpretation; I tend to look for meaning in symbols I see throughout my day, stuff I do that feels weird, dreams, random thoughts and so on.
Lately I've developed a weird paranoia for cockroaches, yes they disgust me but I can deal with it if I find one, it's more of a hassle to get them out of the house than anything, maybe it's just the summer approaching but I also had a dream about it. I was in a very old a ruined building, like a brutalist place the kind you find in Eastern Europe, and the people there were sort of thugs, like very menacing guys, wearing tank tops, shave heads and so on. I was there with a distant friend and I had a pack of cigarettes (Blue Chesterfield, the brand I usually get) which I got from a vending machine in very bad condition, the pack itself looked shabby, like it didn't have the plastic wrap and was kind of deformed, I get a cigarette and I smoke it but it looks like there's less than twenty, I think there were rats and some cockroaches at this point of the dream already. anyway we get into an elevator and when it opens it's full of thugs who get out and let only the two us into the elevator, we go in and I open the pack for another cigarette (I had one before) and I see half the pack is empty and instead of cigarettes there's a cockroach who promptly jumps out and runs away in a vent (are there vents in elevator? I think the roach went after a rat or at least there was a rat in the vent too, I'm not sure), anyway I wake up shortly after.

I'm pretty sure the elevator is a symbol of the body as this seems to be a staple in dream symbolism, (horses used to be symbols of the body, and cars, carriages work too), although maybe it's a symbol of the soul, because it goes towards the sky instead of moving on the earth, like an ethereal body, and it was very ruined like the building, which at that point could be a symbol of me, or at least the container of my soul and shit. Thugs? I don't know, I hold some very extreme political views but it's kind of a joke between me and my friends that since I started working in a factory I became less left-leaning and started smoking, gambling and saying a little bit of extreme things (as a joke but I am convinced a lot of leftist propaganda is crap), and I also became a lot more bitter and resentful which I acknowledge is a prevalent feelings in radicalized right leaning people so maybe the thugs are that part of me, that I keep in.

I really wonder what the roaches mean and what the cigarettes and the vending machine. As for rats, I have this nickname that means "rat" and it's my gaming username usually and also a joke among a few friends, but I don't remember rats vividly enough in my dream.

Roaches are dark and real shitty creatures, like they eat each others' dead body and they slide into anything. I don't know why I'm posting it, but looking for meaning in stuff like this is fun to me, and maybe there's a psychiatrist out there that can help me figure it out

Here's a stupid but hopefully creative reply: The motif is death and decay, which is your situation and desire. The thugs are your suicidal thoughts. Cockroaches are resilient. The cigarettes are desire and death, but they turned into cockroaches. And the thugs left the elevator. So my summary is: you want to die but you sense resilience in yourself to stay alive and you find it repugnant and wish it would go away, scamper into a vent, but you wake up realizing there are no vents.

I like @cemeteryismyhome 's analysis. If you remember if the elevator went up or down it may provide more insight. When I was having a run of dreams involving heavy and dreary places like caves and underground offices I chalked it up to visiting the underworld to work through issues in my subconscious. Sometimes it's the mood the environment evokes rather than the details.

Since the thugs gave you a pass through their realm they could be your raw masculine side awakened by your factory work and corresponding shift in perspective. Their masculine energy could appear as menacing and "other" to the extent that it's been suppressed. I'd take it as a good sign they didn't give you any trouble plus your distant friend being there as a gentle guide.

I'm not sure about the roaches other than maybe attachments from the lower world signifying a need for cleaning up areas of your personal life and needing to shed light on things so they scamper away.

I don't know if I could interpret roaches as something "positive", but it kinda fits

The elevator was definitely going up, that's why I see it as some symbol of the spirit. Your analysis is pretty helpful, I need to think about both.

Thank you

do you have any fears or anxiety related to going outside or into the world due to anything related to childhood or warnings and superstitions said to you ?

I ask this because in the film Beau is Afraid this is a bit similar to the scenes of him going to his apartment in the city and all of the chaos that happens there around him and keeps him there besides his mother who SPOILER
created the apartments he resides in and always warned him about stuff which is why he was and still is afraid and is still childlike and fearful even in adulthood in the film I assume he is about 45-50 ish years old

Sorry for the bump but lately I've remembered (and luckily I had written it when it happened) about another dream involving an elevator.
I am at work in the office of someone I know to be a superior and I am getting told about a mistake I made, but then instead of going on about my mistake he tells me I'm being promoted and that I wild work on repairing nuclear energy plants (my work has nothing to do with this). He assigns me to a colleague, who is a tall, dark skinned, skinny man with a rough face, he has a bleeding nose, he doesn't look too unfriendly though. We shake hand multiple times for some reasons and when I tell him about the blood he simply responds irritated "what do you want me to do about it?"
We get into a large industrial elevator, it's full of people but they aren't factory workers or similar, they just look like the kind of mixed audience you'd find in a subway station or the bus, everyone is discussing and an old lady gets angry at a you boy with dark skin who I think was listening to music (I wrote this down very hastily, I'm trying to remember more details) at some point there's no gravity anymore, as if the elevator had abruptly stopped and I was violently propelled upwards, I'm the only one floating in the air, all the others are firmly in the ground. I wake up.

I really don't know what to make of this but if I had a cent for everytime I dreamt about stepping in an elevator with another guy and it was full of people I'd have two cents, which isn't mucb but it's still weird that it happened twice.
