I've really gotten into movies over the last month, watching a movie every single day. I've recently started going to the cinema and I've been really enjoying it. Last time, I built some courage and decided to go alone and it was great. Lately, I've started going to the cinema and I'm really enjoying it. I recently worked up the courage to go by myself, and it was a great experience. I'm usually not comfortable doing things alone, but I felt fine because it was dark and the audience was mostly older people (I tend to feel a bit uncomfortable around people my own age).

Do you like going to the cinema? What are your favorite movies and what is the last movie you've seen?

I used to. I've been too nervous to since covid. No sick pay when you work freelance. I tend to just wait for stuff to stream now. But, I have a large TV and sit fairly close to it- so, minus all the heads in the way, it can feel similar at times. 😀

I love a good film though. Trying to think of the last film I saw at the cinema. Not sure really. The last one that stuck in my head was 'The Good Liar'. Clever film. Pretty disturbing though.

I remember, I really enjoyed 'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms'. I had worked really hard for maybe 80 or so days in a row. I had travelled somewhere to present the work and, I finally had a weekend free. So, I got a long overdue haircut and, went to see that.

My most ridiculous experience was as a child, being taken to see 'The Never Ending Story' by my Dad and Grandma. I was pretty naive and confused and asked my Dad whether it would actually go on forever. He, equally naively told me it would- the film was on a loop. When it ended, they would play it again. So then- I just felt dread that we would be in the cinema the rest of our lives. But then, I didn't think I'd survive in the world without them and I decided I did love them so, I went along with it. I don't remember enjoying the film though! It's funny how our minds work as children.

Of the films I've streamed recently- although- not all new films. The ones that have stayed with me or, I enjoyed were: 'Midsommar', the latest 'Naked Gun'- that did make me laugh in a few places and 'Heretic'. I've watched others but, I suppose the more disturbing ones are more memorable.

Do you have a favourite genre or cinema food? I tended to go alone quite a bit. Most of the time, it felt ok. I kind of can't believe the price though. So- that was beginning to put me off. Especially when I knew I'd likely end up buying it too.

Not sure anything would tempt me back into the cinema now. I was tempted with the last James Bond but, I waited it out. They seem to release stuff quicker now I find.

I like to watch a movie in a theater. However... I hate most movies. And I'm married and at the same time have no one to go with. She won't go, and that makes it kind of awkward, very much like being handcuffed. Wife won't go, can't find another woman to go with due to being married. If I were single again I might try to make dates with the ONLY expectation being to just see the movie and then go our separate ways. But seriously, I prefer to have no friends so my only choice would be to go alone which seems stupid for me. I did go alone once due to unusual circumstances and it was ok but I wouldn't do it again. Bad thing about being older man... people assume you're a creepy weirdo no matter what, thanks to all the older men who ARE creepy weirdos and make the rest of us suspicious.

I used to love to go to the cinema alone, that magic moment when the lights go out, it is still a much awe-inducing experience than watching at home. And being alone gives you a kind of introspection that puts you closer to the movie. Some people (not much actually) say that is weird but I suppose that for them going to the cinema is more a social event than actually going to see a movie you are interested in.

But lastly I don't go as much (last I remember was Oppenheimer, so quite some time ago) in part because of laziness and in part because I moved from the big city to a smaller town and here is harder to find the kind of movies I would be interested in, mainly classic films and the like that I love to watch them the way they were intended to be watched. New movies, I'm mostly ok watching them at home.

I love going to the cinema. Every year just before Christmas I go to watch Die Hard in the cinemas for the 1000th time. It's a nice little tradition I have with myself.

I've seen Midsommar and it's so good (although quite creepy)! Heretic is in my watchlist.
I don't like popcorn or sugary drinks, so when I go to the cinema I don't eat anything... the prices are also very high. I like psychological drama and existential cinema, so melancholic movies that deal with alienation, isolation and the human psyche in general. To give you some examples, some of my favorites are "Ritual (Hideaki Anno)", "Requiem For A Dream", "The Shawnshank Redemption", "Lost In Translation", "Spirited Away", "Joker", and "Shutter Island".
The prices here for cinema tickets are okay... it's 5.5 or 6 euros if you're a university student.
I don't know the James Bond saga but if you like Daniel Craig, I loved the movie "Knives Out". I recommend it very much!

I used to enjoy going to the cinema, but over the last many years, it's become too expensive and, sometimes, too noisy.
I won't go to a matinee movie geared to a younger audience. I don't like sitting in someone's buttered popcorn and walking on someone's spilled, sticky drink. Also, the concessions are expensive as hell. $$$

And, I have home theater where I can pause the movie if I want, get something to eat - something healthy - or go to the bathroom. A PRIVATE bathroom. I hate public ones.

Oh cool- I love psychological thrillers too. A few more I'd recommend, if you haven't seen them: 'The Machinest', 'Memento', 'A Cure for Wellness', 'Moon'. 'In the Tall Grass' was creepy cool if I remember. I've watched '1402' a few times. Maybe a bit more on the side or horror/ thriller with some of them.

I really enjoy the 'Knives Out' films. I hope they continue to make them. I like crime drama in general though. I enjoyed 'The Residence' on Netflix. Have you seen that?

Be warned- 'Heretic' is pretty creepy too! I think I prefer Hugh Grant as an older actor but then, I never went in for chick flicks. I like to see actors in unexpected roles. He's hilarious in interviews.

Cinema is pretty cool though. Like a sort of portal to another world. It's weird to go in during daylight and come out in the dark. That always stupidly shocks me- that time has passed. Lol.

I've seen The Machinist and Memento but not the others, so thanks for the recommendations!
Have you seen the last Knives Out too? They say it's very good. I wanted to see it at the cinema but it was out of the theaters before I knew It...
I haven't seen The Residence, but I just looked it up and it seems so cool, just like the Knives Out movies!
If you like these types of movies you should read Agatha Christie's books or watch their movies counter parts. I highly recommend "And Then There Were None" and "Murder On The Orient Express".
I agree it's so beautiful! It's become my new hobby :)
Few days ago I went to see Nuremberg for my birthday, it was a nice experience.

Few days ago I went to see Nuremberg for my birthday, it was a nice experience.

I didn't realise the latest Knives Out came to any cinemas first. Probably good I didn't realise though. I would have felt impatient! I think it was the first one I saw at the cinema. I enjoyed it though- definitely. Probably more than the Glass Onion one previously although, a friend enjoyed that one more.

I don't actually think I've seen 'Murder on the Orient Express'- weirdly as it must be a classic. I enjoyed a mini series: 'And Then There Were None' with Charles Dance in. He's amazing in everything I think. I'm too lazy to read. I wish I was a reader. The idea of it appeals but most of my attempts fail!

Not sure why really. My imagination isn't lacking. Maybe I'm just greedy though! I love to see the interpretation probably. The whole thing- the sets/ location, the music, the acting, the cinematography. The whole immersive experience I suppose. And true- it can be extra special on the big screen.

Will you watch a film just for the actor or, does the whole thing need to appeal? I'm more likely to give a film a shot if there's an actor I admire in it. Kind of a- how bad can it be if they agreed to do it?

'Nuremberg' looks impressive. I think there are social/ moral films we probably should watch. For years, I've been meaning to watch 'Schindler's List' but, I can't quite bring myself to do it. I thought 'Valkyrie' was good. I awaited 'Oppenheim' with curiosity too. Just what kind of person would invent something so catastrophic?

Didn't really enjoy it until I met some people at college that did, but now I do enjoy the cinema. They got me into using Letterboxd to log the movies I watched, and now I've been introducing it to my friends as well!

I think my favorite movie so far is Asteroid City, and the last one I saw was Zootopia 2.

I was an internet cinephile for a while until my dad cut off the HDMI cable of our family computer for that lol, but it wasn't like traumatic or anything. As for the cinema, I love the vibes and everything they have going for them; I recently watched the Chainsaw Man Movie and it was breathtaking. I'd like to go the cinema more, but there's not that many good movies nowadays and I don't have any money anyway lol.

I really enjoy going out to the cinema. However, when my mental health deteriorates, it becomes so hard for me to concentrate, or even stay awake. I have fallen asleep while watching "top rated movies" in the cinemas so many times and it's making me feel guilty about myself. The only movie I managed to watch despite all of these issues was drop, I just felt like the movie describes what I'm going through (abuse) so well. I highly recommend it.

I would really like to give it a shot. Making the movies a thing I do once a week maybe like during the morning when there is less people... I never thought about but going alone would require some courage huh? One time I went to a restaurant alone it was a really interesting experience. I guess I'd rather just not go out haha

I choose to watch a movie by looking at its plot and by its rating on Letterboxd (it's a platform where users rate movies). This doesn't mean that a movie that I always agree with their ratings, but if a movie is rated below 3 stars I won't even bother to watch it. If it's universally considered bad, it's very unlikely that I will like it...

I watched Schindler's List and it's one of my favorite movies. I haven't seen Valkyrie and Oppenheimer though. I don't really like Cristopher's Nolan movies to be honest... what do you think? I'll still watch the upcoming movie Odyssey though!

Yeah, I understand the feeling... I went to the restaurant alone too and I felt very uncomfortable, but at the cinema it was a bit different. It's a nice experience, and even if people judge you because of that, that's their problem, not yours.

I do enjoy Christopher Nolan films usually. I thought of another recommendation the other day. I actually had it on in the background yesterday. Have you seen 'The Game' (1997)? Not exactly about isolation in the strictest sense although- kind of. The main character is pretty cold to the world.

I do enjoy going to the cinemas, believe it or not. Granted I don't go very often, typically only a couple of times each year, but it's fun getting to watch a movie on the big screen. Maybe it's just the area I'm in but whenever I go to the cinemas there's hardly anyone ever there unless it's a showing for an extremely hyped up film (ie A Minecraft Movie. Very glad I skipped that film). It could also be the types of movies I watch, which tend to be anime films and other lesser-known movies. It's good that I can almost always visit a cinema without having to worry about dealing with loud and obnoxious people.

i love going to the cinema, unfortunately i don't live close to one but i'd really like to save up so i can travel to one more often, i'm always surprised how cool of a selection independent cinemas usually have, i think it'd be really nice to make a habit of visiting one and discovering movies through it
