How do you distract yourself? Listening to music, drinking, smoking, laying in bed? I kinda wanna find more distraction methods that I could use atm. Thanks

Distraction methods that I use that don't rely on other people are:
  • Self harm, mostly now through hitting my left arm hard as for me thats more painful and long lasting than cutting now.
  • Sleeping, can't think if you sleeping. I may use medication to help me sleep more easily.
  • Masturbation
  • Find some new game or some other media to hyper-fixate on
  • Be a workaholic and develop lots of my game if I have the motivation

Literaly anything, even writing this is a way to distract myself from my own life, by diving into yours for a little bit. But I do lots of things, play games, watch tv, read, write, sometimes I just lay in bed daydreaming about a better/happier or more interesting and fullfilling life than mine, I literaly play Dnd 5e also. I go out to ride my bicicle of motorcycle. I study, I walk and try to name all the trees and plants around me, fuck in the worst case scenario I clean the house...just keep busy... so I don't have to think about how much I hate myself and my life.

Agree. Come here. Dive into other people's issues instead of your own.

It's hard for me to be distracted for long because so many things remind me of what I don't have, have never had, and never will have. Even things I used to like or still like a little eventually contain something that remind me of reality. Music, TV, movies, all contain people that are connecting to someone and feeling something and it brings me back. Reading does the same. Writing my own thoughts obviously... There's almost nothing I can do to distract myself from my craptastic reality of being alone.

Probably listen to music is the best way, depressive or not
Especially bc when you feel in a particular mood, there are not other methods you can try
There are a lot of unhealthy easy ways (i usually use too) more and more effective than the healthy ones, the best one alcohol and meds
I wouldn't say coming here is a method of distraction is more an addiction

This forum is a good distraction for me. I'm terrible for watching YouTube videos one after the other too. An immersive game is brilliant. Work is also very distracting when I have it. It's extremely time consuming. But, for the full immersive experience, I'll put a film, music or podcast on in the background too. Then, my mind has no real choice but to skip between the two.

I've always found it quite meditative. It's been my main coping mechanism in life. I wish I could enter the same 'zone' doing housework. For some odd reason, nothing seems to distract me while doing that away from how much I hate the activity, hate my life that requires me to do the activity, hate having been born to begin with and, obsess about suicide. Sadly, that attitude is also starting to spread into other things too.

On the off chance I'm not dissociated out of my mind or sleeping...

Music mostly.

But really, I'd probably just be sleeping if I had the time to distract myself in the first place.

Pretty much me, except the 1st. 5th one could be graphics/music/pregramming for me. Not necessarily a game dev here, but def a creative type.

Reading, I read a lot.
I get distracted so easily and it's kinda hard to concentrate for me when reading. Or maybe I can't find books that actually interest me lol

I try to distract myself by listening to music, playing games, or reading books, but it doesn't always work out that I can distract myself from my thoughts
