Yes the only god is the brain. Once that malfunctions too badly people have nothing. A person can be as spiritual and intelligent as possible but with a bad head injury they will go back to basic primitive functioning with no recollection of this. That kind of seals there is no soul for me personally.

The energy that animates you and gives everything living "life" is released from this form. Is there a conciousness or awareness after death? I don't know, none of us can truly answer what is beyond this existance. Whatever it is, we all end up there together. The human brain can not imagine non existence, we all think of blackness, but that can't be what it is, because that is a perception of human senses. I want to believe there is peace, an eternal sense of calm and wellness as we merge back into the source we were created from.

I agree completely. Human concepts of afterlife are so wrapped up in a sense of self importance that is clearly motivated by our feelings of loneliness in this universe, and it seems easy to me to realize this. Everything about it denies the truth you can witness every day by observing nature and the workings of the world.
"Terror management theory" - an interesting subject that posits that all of our cultural beliefs stem from this fear.
