I would LOVE to have 2 ragdoll cats, but with traveling and such, I could not take them with me, and I would NOT want to stress them out by having to put them in a pet hotel.

A ferret, they are wonderfully sociable little creatures that genuinely love interacting with people (most of mine were always desperate to be picked up or played with)

Chickens! They have big personalities and are far more intelligent than their reputation. They have object permanence and can learn dozens of faces. Many chickens are calm and actually enjoy being held and pet by humans. Mine follow me around looking for snacks haha.

I also have a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix who was a rescue and had not received proper socialization as a puppy. If she had, I think she would have actually made a great therapy dog (extremely affectionate with the people she knows, fluffy, calm). I suspect that livestock guardian dogs, when trained and socialized from an early age, would make excellent therapy animals.

Cats of course, but If its any species probably a horse a bird or a deer. Pigeons especially are sweet from what i've heard and I just like horses and deer lol.

I used to have a pet snake before my health got so much worse and I couldn't take care of her anymore.
She was perfect.
She didn't bark, whine, jump, slobber, shed fur everywhere, no walks required, no damaged furniture, most of the time in her terrarium where she couldn't get into my stuff and make a mess.
And when I wanted to hold her I could take her out and we could just chill, she was a pretty calm and slow snake.
I miss feeling her cool scales and the weight of her body on my arm or neck. The sensation of her powerful muscles as she moved felt kind of like a massage too.
Despite what most people think, she was far safer than any cat or dog. No venom, too small to strangle a human, teeth so small they felt like accidentally pricking yourself with a sewing needle, more startling than painful. She only bit me once when she missed the rat during feeding.
She was such a sweetheart and I miss her.

Maybe a parrot. They have such terrific character. But then, I don't like the thought of flying animals in cages. They're really messy- my neighbours have some. And, I couldn't give them consistent attention. Plus- they live a long time. There's the worry of what could become of them when I'm gone.

Watching animals in general is a therapy to me.
But if i have to pick one then, cats or dogs or orangutans or goats. Fuck it, all animals are therapy

Any.
Any animal willing to love me.
Although, I do have a slight preference towards cats: their presence is calm and peaceful. Sitting quietly with a cat by your side is already therapeutic for me.

For a domestic pet, I'd go cat. But for visiting somewhere for therapeutic purposes, I'd prefer a therapy dog over a therapy cat if a therapy cat even is a thing to begin with.

when i was in a residental treatment center they had a therapy dog who would come once a week. probably the only thing about that place i really miss was that dog. i think a therapy dog would be cool to have in my daily life now too.
