Mentally, what year are you still stuck in? What period of time seems like it was just yesterday to you, when really it was ages ago?

For me, I think it's probably the end of 2022. That's when things stopped moving, stopped growing. When I became "fixed", sterile. When my philosophical beliefs went from a frenetic, boiling, molten cauldron of disparate ideas to a hardened caulk. Case in point, the other day, I was looking up when the Queen died, and was shocked to discover that it was in September 2022, because to me it feels like that just happened yesterday...

2021 tbh. nothing "significant" has happened to me (excluding one relationship i had), i'm pretty much flawed the same way i was back then. it's saddening that i need external "assistance" like a girlfriend to function like a normal human. otherwise i'm in crumbles

It's interesting because there are a few years and time periods I feel like I am stuck in and constantly reminiscing over, mostly from 2016-2023, but I'd say I'm most stuck in 2018 - probably because my life peaked in that year, I would say. I was still depressed and facing struggles at that time, but I can definitely say I felt way more "alive" back then compared to now. Now I'm just a husk, completely dead inside and waiting for it all to end.

Honestly 2020. I know it was the worst year for a lot of people, but for me it was probably the best year of my life. As an introvert, I was thrilled to hear the government say I was not allowed to go interact with anyone else. I worked from home and had a second job, so I was pulling in tons of money (although I was also deep in debt). I did not have to go see my family over the holidays. I spent the year streaming and playing Cyberpunk.

My brain clings to 2020 as that was the last time where I felt pretty good.

The year my first wife left me and I failed in my career at the same time. And that was a long time ago.

There were mini stops and starts before and since but that was the pivot where things went from still possible with an active, usually interested mind to idling in neutral like a mindless, disaffected zombie devoid of inspirations or aspirations.

For me it's 2022 as well, in fall of that year was when they started the holocaust against my loved ones, against the only true family I've ever had, who were nutrias. I tried everything to save them but failed, I even got in legal trouble because the thing that murdered them accused me of having "threatened" it - when all I had was a self-defense flashlight while the thing had a firearm that it had used to murder the nutrias.
My life ended back then. I'm still existing, but not living. It's been three and a half years, and I know this is nothing I could possibly recover from. I only want to go where they are and to be reunited with them. The only thing that keeps me going are some few survivors I keep visiting.

For me, it's also gotta be 2021/2022. I was still in university, and it was the first time in my life I actually had friends. Suddenly, time seemed to speed up a lot. Graduation was suddenly sooner than I thought. Some people started to drift away, or make plans to move. But if you were sitting around drinking with friends, it felt like the night would go on forever, until suddenly it didn't anymore. In many ways, I'm still frozen in time in those days.

All the songs that were popular in 2022, shows, memes, etc feel just like yesterday to me. It's hard to believe that time is gone forever, and that it's been 4 years now. I would honestly do anything to go back to those days. Or to 2006, playing Pokemon emerald for the first time, eating dinner with my grandparents on a Sunday afternoon, all the colours in the world still so bright and everything still feeling new and magical to me. I feel like as time passes, colours, sounds, sensations, etc feels a lot more muted.
