Games What is your favourite Shmup/Bullet Hell ?

I am not sure if I made a thread about this or not already but what are some that you enjoy ?

I haven't played many (I have played some in the past but no longer remember the names of them) but I think I am going to try out all of the DoDonPachi games, I remember playing DoDonPachi DaiOuJou and enjoying it (GREAT ost !)

I also might try out Internal Section (it looks so cool)

Mine is any one in the Raiden series, specially Raiden Fighters. I've been into Btoodstar too, which is a roguelite take on it. Pretty fun.

But pick any Shmup with a lot of variety between characters/weapons and I instantly like it! (Sonic Wings, Psikyo in general, Gradius Gaiden)

Oh yeah! If we're talking fangames, Xeno Fighters R is the GOAT, as younguns like to say. Free as well! Basically the closest we ever had of a Shmup Smash Bros!

oOoOoo R-Type Final series is such a good "Everyone is here mostly somewhat in a way" subseries that I can't help but love, even with R-Type's typical "Memorize everything or DIE" difficulty.

You have good taste! I've got my first taste of Raiden on PS1 as well.

You have good taste! I've got my first taste of Raiden on PS1 as well.

The psx has such an incredibly library of shmups. I contemplated getting a japanese playstation classic just to play gradius gaiden and g-darius on something akin to original hardware, but was ultimately put off by the reviews.

Man, just get yourself an emulation box cause PS1 can be emulated in potatoes. Hell, even any old computer or laptop you have around can become an emulation station using Lakka or Batocera.

However, since Shmups need low input delay, I'd recommend Retroarch on PC. It even has run-ahead, which can eliminate in-game input delay!

Don't give your money to companies that release crappy products. Instead, use free ones that are made with love and passion (And lots of hard work) and then tell everyone how they are better than the paid alternative! (Like me!)

This game has one of the strangest box arts I've ever seen for a game; especially a shoot-em-up lol~



I need to play more shoot-em-ups. I love the ones I have played! I really like the TwinBee series and the Parodius series, which are "cute-em-ups" that have a lot more colorful and whimsical aesthetic~ Harmful Park is awesome too! And I just got started playing Einhander for PS1 and I love the changes of the camera angles and how you can switch the position of your weapons! The music is great too!
