Not sure how to feel.

Recently I've been doing sort of self harm type things, but I don't think it's because I'm suicidal or anything. I don't really get it, I just get like the urge to do it. Whenever I do though, it's not like serious at all, like I'll bite myself but never enough to like bleed or anything, or I'll cut myself a very small amount. I don't know, I just don't know how to feel about it, I don't know why I do it, I just kind of like enjoy doing it, if that makes sense? At the same time though I feel like it's insulting to people that actually do serious self harm stuff, which I'm way too much of a pussy to do. I don't know why I really made this post, does anyone else do stuff like this?

In what context do you get the urge to do it? How are you usually feeling when you do these things? It can be considered self-harm or at least evolve to that so you don't need to invalidate yourself.

Usually when I'm angry or generally upset.

I personally think that self harm is self harm whether or not it draws blood or even if it isn't physical in nature. There might be some hidden, underlying motive behind why you do it that you're just not keenly aware about yet. After all, I don't think it's common for people to just hurt themselves for no reason whatsoever.

As for whether or not I do something like that--yes I do!

I bite myself often, usually as a means of grounding. Whether I'm getting pretty anxious and need to calm down, or I'm starting to feel myself slip away from reality, a good chomp can help keep me in the moment somewhat longer.

Usually when I'm angry or generally upset.

This is actually a pretty common reason/time/situation to self harm, full stop.

Find an alternative dude. Even if it's not serious at this point it can develop to that. It becomes sort of a challenge between yourself to hurt even more. Find things that distract you. Music and gaming can be pretty good for that. SH is disgusting and I dont mean that in a rude way I mean it quite literally. Theres risks of unintentionally damaging a nerve or getting a serious nasty infection. Those will make life hell for you on Earth.

Gotcha, thanks for the insight.

That reminds me of back when I was around 16-17. I used to bite the back of my right hand so much that the area went numb and I could barely feel anything when I touched it. It healed up, thankfully, but it took some time before it went back to normal.

Im a cutter and I like self harming in all sorts of ways with all sorts of things, and I sort of feel the same. At first back when I started, it was to escape my thoughts and emotions. Nowdays its mostly because I'm bored or maybe just cuz I'm too addicted to it and I dont care enough to stop. Youre really not insulting to anyone that way, dw :D

I used to hit myself in the head and neck repeatedly with palm strikes until I felt dizzy. I actually passed out once and I pretty much stopped shortly after. My reasoning for it was I didn't like blood and I didn't want something physically visible like scars on my body. Obviously, lots of stuff can be self-harm, and it doesn't even have to have a lasting impact to be such. If you act in a way to cause yourself pain, you are self-harming, and its motivating behavior to relieve stress is just as real as people who have scars, or memory issues from hitting their head or something. That said, I feel like a lot of people who self-harm do have that "scary" moment where they drop it, at least for a long while.

Gotcha. I also sometimes hit my head (not as often as like biting myself) and I did not know that it caused memory issues. Thinking about it logically it does make sense though.
