I've been having a rough month while continuing my search for work. I wanted to know how many other people are unemployed here, or struggling with settling for jobs they don't want. General discussion on economic hardship and stuff is allowed here as well. I'm just curious to know whether or not my suicidality being driven a lot by material factors is uncommon here or not.

I'm still employed for now. Not sure when AI will come into play and take my job.Being without a job for too long makes things extremely tough. A friend of mine lost his job and he had loans ongoing as well. He literally emptied his entire bank account and somehow got a job at the last minute after months of struggling . He's doing very, very well now. Getting paid a lot.

A nice movie about job hunting which is a bit inspirational is the pursuit of happyness,The protagonist has it really tough finding a job.

I'm employed these days but I can definitely say when I was unemployed it was a big contributing factor to my suicidal thoughts.

I have never been employed. Don't have any want to get any job due to fear of doing anything wrong and low distress and mental work tolerance. Not really any financial issues for me as I just live with my parents tho I wish I could get out of here so I have more freedom on how to get better or to ctb as my parents trap me home for my suicidalness.

Almost a year being unemployed. Definitely contributing to my desire to CTB. Then again I was looking up places to CTB WHILE I had a job…so I hate being employed and I definitely hate being unemployed.

I've been so pissed recently because I can't qualify for unemployment having not had an actual job before. But no matter how hard I've been looking for the past six months nobody will hire me without experience for even the most menial and straightforward shit imaginable. Feels like I accidentally ended up in a weird caste that's treated as untouchable subhumans

unemployment because i've never had a job genuinely makes me want to kill myself more than anything. i don't care about politics or dignity, i would do anything to get a job but i'm just not qualified. it's on my face and the way i act. i don't look happy to be there and i bomb interviews. i'm not someone people want to hire since i'm depressing looking. it makes me feel awful to know i'm just a liability to people and a burden to society by not having a job. i'm only 1 step away from being homeless if my parents didn't let me leech off them. everyday i feel angry about my circumstances.

I totally get the part of not wanting to do a bad job at a theoretical position. That partly held me back from applying a lot when I was younger. I figure now though that I either try to apply and maybe I'll mess up a lot at work, but I'll learn something useful like skills or maybe something about people that can help me get a better job

Both being employed and unemployed can seem like their own personally designed torture hell chambers yeah. Being uphappy in both places obviously speaks to something bigger regarding the experience of suffering though

I know of that movie from the Kanye song Champion, but I've never seen it. I'll see if I can give it a watch sometime soon

I'm a young guy, and with current economic pressures the last thing on my mind is retirement, but I'll try to be more inclusive in the future, my apologies.

Self-employed is def in the employed category. Congrats on being your own boss, I'm sure it has a lot of perks and freedoms

My current contract was not renewed. So as of August 1st, 2025, I am unemployed and I will have no health insurance. I am in a country outside of the USA. I have applied for jobs all over the world and I have had many interviews. The problem is that I am Diabetic, I in what is called "Heart Failure" and I am 60 years old. In my field there are very few places that will hire a 60 year old. My birthday is in October. I thought I would CTB on my birthday when I turned 65, but it is looking like it will most likely be MUCH sooner. My work is WHO I AM. If I don't have a purpose in my work and I don't have an income, I am nothing. I do not have hundreds of thousands of dollars to support myself without a job. Plus, the medication I need to take for my Diabetes and my Heart condition is about $500USD per month. CTB is looking like the best option.

It's just a shitty dropshipping store I built in an attempt to delay my death. If I were to find a job I would have definitely CTB a while ago.

I had a job and I couldn't stand it. I can't stand the idea of working. Yet, I can't stay home all day doing nothing on disability. This is why I'm catching the bus, I have nothing to do with my life tbh.

Never had one and I'd rather die than get one. Literally. I don't want to slave away to some rich bastard so I can live. I was in a Co-op at one point and it was stressful as fuck, had its good moments but realistcally I can't stand 8 hours of that shit and the reason I wasn't completely depressed working there was because it's a pet store and I could look at animals. Just always beat myself up over big or small mess ups and the job gets boring, a lot.

I'm juggling three jobs at the moment. I work full-time at a homeless shelter, almost full-time at a retailer and 11 a week as a job coach.

Technically I am employed by the state as a care provider for a family member. But it pays for scraps (like 200 a month) and the only reason I even got it was because I didn't have to talk to anyone in the process. I am horrifically bad at interviews, and even if I manage to stutter any tangible responses, the interviewer can still tell that I'm totally socially inept and rejects me. I usually don't even get to the interview part though, the employers see my complete lack of job history and throw out the application.

But honestly, the thought of having a normal job at all makes me so depressed, I can't even imagine myself living through one month of it. I'm trying to get myself to volunteer at a local animal shelter to get experience, but even the thought of doing that for 2 weeks literally makes me cry. I'm just too easily overwhelmed by people and any little mistakes I make.

I am on disability due to my panic, anxiety, depression and PTSD from a life where I kept getting forced down the shitter. There was one glimmer of hope I had back in 2011. Found a good woman (at the time) and got married and moved away from a life that was dead in the water. You can imagine my disappointment that all the vows and promises made were lies, turned out to be like all my ex lovers prior to her. Now we are just roommates that live under a roof so we can live. I get flash backs, emotionally manipulated and other things, don't have family or friends. Just coasting until I am dead. 43 but I am morbidly obese. I hope I don't have too much longer to go.

I worked for a grand total of 3 months when I was 17. And it was so traumatic, I couldn't work again. And then add compounding and worse ing mental and physical health and now work is not something I will ever be capable of.

And society demands I die for that. And even when we agree on that, they still withhold euthanasia drugs out of nothing but cruelty. Because suicide hurts the bottom line. And to these millions of money worshipping monsters, that's all that matters.

Even if I was capable of working, I refuse to do so on moral and ethical grounds because modern day work is slavery with extra steps. And I refuse to participate in what would be essentially my own enslavement and torture. And my heart breaks for those trapped in that system.

It doesn't have to be this way. But it's what humanity keeps choosing willingly.

Well, a variety of them. For example, having trouble with no stimming while I'm nervous, maintaining eye contact (I've trained this one but still), words not coming for what I want to express, not understanding the hidden meaning behind a question, not being "nice enough" because of my face's lack of expression, etc. It sucks and it feels like the system is designed to only make fake people succeed :D

I'm employed, and a college graduate. If people think money makes one happy, I'll be the 1st to tell you, it's a lie! I'm happy I'm not homeless and hungry as I use to be. The problem is if you have mental illnesses and or chronic illnesses as myself, you don't enjoy going out and spending your money, or physically unable to. I appreciate the small things like pain-free days, rest and relaxation. I don't enjoy outings with friends and phone calls all day. I enjoy my piece and quietness. My point is, a basic job would have given me the same happiness and peace that I have now.
