To those on this forum who get therapy, psychiatry, medicine...how do you do it?

Getting these past due bills in the mail worth thousands of dollars is making me extremely suicidal. One session of psychiatry (20 minutes of enduring the psychiatrist preach the most prolife garbage ever) cost 500$. And I had sessions every other day for MONTHS.

That's adjusted with insurance too. I'm under my Dad's but he doesn't care. He leaves the letters on the counter for me to see, as if it's my fault, when I didn't want therapy to begin with.

I wondered how my therapy group members afforded it. Then I realized they're just rich. How else are they getting ongoing therapy when they don't work, have their own apartments, have cars, and eat out everyday? They probably don't pay a single penny thanks to their supportive, caring, rich parents. I'm jealous. I wish mine were like that.

But they're not. They expect a 19 year old who graduated last year with her first part time job to pay thousands of dollars for being depressed. It feels like a punishment. Maybe it is. I'm an adult though, so it's okay. I just hope they don't view me as their poor baby who was "too young" when I ctb.

The Catholic Charities near me offers somewhat impressive mental health services.

Honestly I just live in a country where it's free at the point of use, so I've always been able to access it no matter how poor my financial situation was. I literally have no idea how I'd have survived in a country like the US.

Which country is that? In my country, therapy is so shitty and costly that it's better to die

The UK. Therapy has been hit and miss, but once I've found people I can work with it's been very beneficial.

I am only able to afford therapy because my parents cover my other medical bills. I have so many other medical bills, so I meet my deductible. I pay for therapy on my own. It gets greatly reduced or flat out is free. I have privilege being on my parents' insurance still, but I definitely would not be able to do it without them.

I'm trying to understand why your dad leaves the bills for you to see. Of course I have no way to know, but here are some guesses (I'm a dad)...
These are not to defend or excuse anything, just thoughts I can see a dad having...
1. He just wants you to know. He might want to not shield you from the information so that you can adjust and be prepared for later in life.
2. He might think that if you knew how much it costs, you would stop going, or go less. (I know you said you didn't want to go in the first place)
3. He might be straining to pay and hoping you will help
4. He might be a little messed up in the head and for reasons which can't be explained, has forced you to go and now wants to force to you to pay, I know parents like that and it's totally ridiculous.

Yeah perhaps he does have his reasons. My guess is that he's letting me deal with it myself. We've been aware of the bills for months and I wouldn't mind paying portions if he asked or at least talked about it. He got angry that I paid for my mental hospital stay, so idk if it's okay for me to handle this bill or not. Whatevers the case, he can use my leftover money after I ctb to pay it off.

Same for decent medical care. If doctors would do something besides say "Well, all your labs are normal. Good to see you. Next!!" I wouldn't be here.

I think you have two options. (1) Travel abroad to somewhere you can get good psychiatric care for a sensible price. (2) Study enough so that you can become your own psychiatrist. Option 2 might be feasible, but it would require you to be ruthlessly (and perhaps painfully) honest with yourself. (I suppose there is a third option - get rich - but it's probably harder to achieve than the other two.)

For me it's a waste of money. I'm not surprised that psychiatry and psychology are the lowest. They are not doctors, they try to guess and diagnose just because. In the end. For temporary problems yes, for chronic diseases they are not useful.
summary: either you are cured or it is because you don't want to. A crime

Psychiatrists are doctors (you literally have to go to medical school to become one) and psychologists don't claim to be medical doctors. Also, some people do find that psychiatrists and psychologists have helped them with managing their mental illnesses long-term and those people's experiences shouldn't be ignored just because you haven't found a psychologist or psychiatrist who could help you. How responsive people are to treatment will rely on many factors and some might be more receptive to certain treatments provided to them compared to others. That's just how it goes.

Is your therapist out-of-network with your insurance company? If so, you should look for someone in-network. (Your insurance company's website should have a list, although that list isn't always up to date.) Or is it that you have a high deductible?

If you don't want therapy to begin with you can always stop going.
