This is not a suicide thread per se. But I didn't have another place to make this comment candidly so here goes. This is US based

Eeveryday we see more and more immigrants being run off job sites. Agriculture workers gone, roofers gone, hotel staff gone. How will these business run? What will so many Americans who rely on this labor do instead? But a whole segment of working people are disappearing. The logic of this tactic just escapes me.

And then we read the headlines...50 percent of white collar jobs will be eliminated by AI. Or maybe that's agressive but still a lot

So are we headed for a world with mass unemployment and mass job openings...at the same time? I suppose on paper all the laid off software engineers can start mowing lawns?

Do others think about this future view? Does it scare you? Or are you an optimist?

I'm just glad I won't be here to see what's coming. Plus, that I haven't brought children into this shit storm.

It's the same in the UK though. Some industries are dominated by immigrant workers. As natives- we should be ashamed really though. That we're too lazy to do those jobs. That we expect other people to do them and be grateful for the 'privelage,' while simultaneously moaning that they are 'stealing' our resources.

It's hard to really predict what AI will do and, how people will even survive if there aren't any jobs. It will impact right up the chain though. If people can't afford to buy stuff and services, how will the CEO's make money either?

Hell is coming. It comes in many forms and there are plenty of different opportunity for it to appear. War civil or other wise. Mass unemployment. A dystopian future. But all are a nice and reasonable reason to leave this world.

Whats waiting for US is economic troubles. Im more sad about hearing the stories or generally whats happening with ICE and deportations as a whole. The big change is going to be that democrates come into office in the next election and revert everything that trump (fuck him) has been doing. About the ai and stuff i rather doubt that most jobs will be eliminated i think goverments will be restricting it (Maybe not US) or create pointless jobs.

I think collapse is coming worldwide, AI is growing at an exponentially fast rate. And it's not just the lack of workers that will ruin agriculture, the climate will make the food industry unsustainable in the long run, even a few degrees in ocean temperature will eventually destroy ocean life, maybe a Blue Ocean Event will happen before 2030, and that's without mentioning the ongoing conflicts and rearm, or the social crisis.

I wanted to start a family and all one day but it just gets harder looking for a future. It's soothing in a way.

I think 90% of what we hear in the news is rubbish. Overhyped, sensationalized, so much so that it's almost impossible to know what the facts are.

I do think about this quite often. Given the country's lack of a social safety net and the upcoming collapse of social security and medicare, and the deportations of caregivers, I'd say the country's techno-feudal near future will have elderly former white-collar workers living in camps and getting bused out to pick crops in the fields. I'm not sure what will be done as to construction, roofing, etc. Other countries will probably have something like a universal basic income.

Right. Why hadn't I thought of that of that. My role could be staying in a camp and picking crops. I'm just so old and slow though...

Hoping the most dire doesn't come to pass.
Happening now, right

I have been resigned to and even kind of looking forward to The Collapse of not just the USA but the whole world for as long as I've been conscious. First it was because I was raised pentacostal and taught we are in the end times. Now I'm an atheist and think we are in the end times but not like how religious folk think of it. What we have done to our planet is catching up to us and we show no signs of real change. As the ecosystems die, our economies will collapse, this will cause chaos, wars, & finally the Big Boom. It seems inevitable to me.
