How many 10mg instant release propranolol tablets do you think would do it? These are short acting. I think I read tachycardia and seizures would develop within a half hour? Does anyone know if this would be painful? For how long? What are the odds of success?

I've survived this. Twice. The first time I took around 4g and then SI kicked in and I called for help. The second time I took over 8g plus other medications and was in a coma for a few days - I was found unconscious a few hours in. So to answer your question, you need a lot.

Before you fell unconscious, did you feel any pain or discomfort? Do you think if you hadn't been found you wouldn't be here now?

4g is 400 pills? Or is that not right? I get symptomatic bradycardia with just a 5mg tablet and half a clonidine. Why so much to induce death. Seems like that many pills would just cause vomiting.

They come in higher doses than 10mg a tablet. Like many medications, propranolol has a wide therapeutic range. Just because something makes you bradycardic, doesn't mean it will kill you at a slightly higher dose.

I had no issues with nausea, but I did dose with metoclopramide beforehand as a precaution because I have a weak stomach. I had mild chest pain which I can remember. After that my memory fades out but apparently I was very distressed, and then agitated as I lost consciousness. This is in stark contrast to how I usually am, which is quite reserved. So it's not a pretty way to go out

Ok so then it took a few hours to lose consciousness. Doesn't sound painless or reliable. I wonder why so many people choose propranolol in suicide attempts.

No, it definitely didn't take a few hours the second time. Maybe an hour max. The first time (with the lower dose) I didn't lose consciousness; the second time, I had taken so many different medications that I don't think that the loss of consciousness could be attributed to any single one.

It's definitely not reliable on its own. In my experience, it needs to be mixed with a calcium channel blocker or a tricyclic antidepressant before anything actually happens, and with sedation
