As far as I know, foreign language use in direct/private messages is not moderated, but can be reported so be careful if you're using an AI translator and don't double-check the translation. A simple error can lead to a complicated situation.

Just noticed a post in this thread was deleted by a moderator. I assume it was because he was posting his discord and requesting a direct message, but I want to be sure it's not about the language use. The Rules and FAQs state:
Chat Guidelines
... No breaking of any of the above rules in all chat channels. Any image or video attachments must be placed inside spoiler tags. Only talk in English.
Do those specific restrictions apply to direct messages and/or the main forums? That was the only instance of the Word "English", but the restriction may have been phrased differently. I frequently post in multiple languages in all three main forum sections, as well as in direct messages (and, as of this morning, on my profile posts) if it will facilitate communication or elicit a more open sharing, but I understand the burden that places on the mods. Please let me know if I should refrain completely, limit it to direct messages, or if it's all good as long as it doesn't violate any other rules.

I do not use the chat functions/rooms at all.

Are you now saying that direct/private messages initiated with [Start Conversation] are also to be restricted? As mentioned above, the Rules/FAQ are ambiguous, and the reason given for the restriction is this:

If that is indeed the reason, the ruling should not apply to private messages, as we can report violations without compromising the sanctity of that unmoderated space, and without adding any burden to the moderators.

Staff cannot read your PMs unless someone reports a message that is from you, in which case we will be able to see the reported message.

The freedom to converse privately in whatever language is necessary can reduce additional pain and frustration from miscommunication and poor translation to English. We just want to feel understood, and it feels like you are taking away our ability to do that.

If we could get a moderator to clarify that would be appreciated.

There are megatopics in different languages; generally, it's a way for people to connect with others who share a reality closer to their own. I didn't know that was prohibited.
I don't think people should restrict themselves to speaking only English.

Just to be clear, there are not eough moderators to deal with keeping the site free of things like cyberbullying in English, nevermind any other languages. Please respect the "request", by only posting in English in the public forums. I have conversations open to anyone that wants to use ANY other language. Cutrently French, Filipino, German, Turkish, Tagalog (separate from Filipino) and Arabic. Post here (in English) if you'd like to join any of those or feel free to start your own with other members. There is a solution.
