Places to talk besides Reddit?

I just got banned from Reddit for glorifying suicide (allegedly).

So where now? Where do you go to socialise online other than Reddit?

- Facebook is a fking cesspit of fake news and inflammatory posts.
- All forums I've found are virtually dead.
- Discord is annoying to use

I'm interested in topics like philosophy, shit posting, UK topics, programming

Honestly, it's not the platform, it's the people in there, but I understand each platform has rules that increase leniency towards certain types of behavior. In that case, each Mastodon instance has its own rules, so it really depends.

Thanks for the heads up! Yeah also it seems to have a more of a followers and leaders model, I'd prefer something more topic oriented but it's looking more and more like a pipe dream

You mention programming so you may be interested in Hacker News or Lobste.rs which are both very active communities. I think the Something Awful forums are still active? It costs $10 to register though but that's where I'd start looking personally. I see some people recommending piefed.social. Never heard of it before. Good luck!

Here. Reddit is nice for actual advice and non-AI reviews on products but it's full of censorship and echo chambers.


I got downvoted on a snark sub because a bunch of people were denying the racist experience of an Asian woman's mixed race child and I (as an actual black and Asian person) said that it's actually quite common and they all just refused to listen because their hate for this mommy blogger was more important I guess.

Reddit have really advanced identification technology, it's more than just device finger printing, up address logging or email comparison, they use behaviour profiling and it's almost impossible to overcome. I tried multiple times and if my new account isn't shadow banned, it's suspended after just a couple of weeks

its quite hard to talk to anyone these days

Discord = Servers with 100 different rules and 100 different text channels (which no one uses), the best you'll get is some surface level small talk (if you're lucky)

Reddit = 100 different rules, not really a place to "communicate" with people, just for posting threads and surface level comments, maybe the occasional good discussion until [deleted by moderator] or your account gets banned.

I personally use lainchan, zzzchan, 8kun, endchan and some lesser known chans and forums, occasionally 4chan but that is mostly swamped with spammers. Lots of these chans are also an acquired taste, but it feels like these are the last places on the internet without any censorship.

Discord, Matrix and XMPP servers can also be good - but you need to somehow find your way into very niche, private and underground servers to derive any enjoyment.

Neocities is also a unique way to interact with others, you can view other peoples websites which they customize to express themselves. You can leave comments and connect with people that way.
