Guess its big news, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c24q1n6905mo, SaSu is being described as pro-suicide, yet we got a pro-recovery section, I've depended quite heavily on the recovery support to keep going, I can't say I've not thought about suicide, I'm BPD, been this way for years, but what will happen to OUR support? Like I said, I depended very heavily on this, and I fear losing this, and my friends here.

Targeting a forum full of vulnerable people who are sure to just regroup somewhere else is a very smart decision instead of, y'know, fixing the root causes of why people feel suicidal in the first place?

I'll never understand why they're so obsessed with this place. Surely there are more important issues than some obscure suicide forum.

It's clearly laughable for a UK regulatory body to think that it has any jurisdiction over a US forum. There is no possible sanction it could apply.

So the good news is that this is abject nonsense that can't have any direct impact on the forum. It's a just a piece of PR, allowing politicians to be claiming to be doing something.

What could potentially happen is enforcement of the current voluntary block applied by many UK ISPs, and attempts by the UK government to apply some kind of pressure on the US government. However, the First Amendment would seem to limit any action there to further attempts to block UK visitors.

Given that the forum permits use of VPNs after registration, there's no realistic block that could be used to prevent UK members continuing to use the forum.

One takes effort and a lot of money and it won't give as many votes or good favour among voters, it might even make some people angry because they're wasting tax payer's money on trying to help "lazy" people.

But with this? Easy win for politicians and won't be seen as a bad thing by most people out there. The cost likewise is very low compared to the alternative.

Why aren't we allowed to use a VPN btw? I never understood why

Use tor browser. It's free. A bit slow, though.
