Even when I saw my classmates used ChatGPT for their assignments I quivered with rage. Why does it feel like I'm the only person who hates AI so much that I never use it? Even my roleplay buddies on discord use it for faceclaims of their OCs.

Research is still being done all the time, but ever since the collapse of ICI, it is more privatized and not done in freelance teams. AI, and specially LLMs, are absolutely NOT ready to do anything needing logic, because its corpus is full of inaccurate stuff, and as data scientists say: GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out)

I do use image generation for personal purposes, but I would never use it as a substitute for humans.

But in december 2023 I was kicked off of campus for comments I made about the radical feminists in the sorority house next door to my fraternity house that I lived in. I am a gay liberal but I can't stand radical feminists that pin all their made up problems on me. I spoke up and they buried me in false accusations and I lost EVERYTHING. So I joined the ARMY. I was a 74D CBRN Specialist. I was going to get a biochem degree this way. life was about to be beautiful and perfect. But then, a drill sergeant that knew my father personally decided he wanted revenge on me. He broke both my knees. He did it on purpose. It was the most painful thing i'd ever felt. The army kicked me out and swept the case under the rug.

My thesis on liquid crystal systems and cubic harmonics was already written. This is the crux of it tbh. LLMs are sophists, and worse, they're sycophants; if you're using an LLM for advice/feedback/psychotherapy/companionship—i.e. instances where there are no clear-cut objective answers to prompts, you're inevitably going to get responses that are a) very convincing and b) very biased in your favour. If LLMs will validate and even create psychotic delusions (and they have, an alarming amount of times) because the user is always good/smart/right it's probably not going to tell you the truth at the expense of your feelings.

I used to think you could get around this behaviour by simply adding instructions to be brutally honest or combative in the LLM's custom prompt, but because its primary goal is still making you feel good, all this means is that it'll push back slightly or vaguely before returning to default mode (and then telling you how wonderful and smart you are for wanting the truth at the expense of your feelings, lol).

Hardly any original thoughts. But I used to think these concerns were overblown, or at least lacked nuance. You know things are bad when AI-induced psychosis is an actual term. I do wonder if the user-glazing behaviour could be avoided by hosting one locally.

People lie... people are also dumb... and there are people in power and on the news who lie and convince people of all sorts of incorrect things every day. We don't need AI to brainwash people... Corrupt cruel manipulative people do it FAR better and easier. And people at least question AI... people rarely question people on their team/tribe/group when the leader says something with authority. I'm way more scared of manipulative people than I ever will be of AI.

And all the inaccurate stuff sourced by AI... who came up with all that? That's right... people! Either willfully wrong people or lying people or corrupt people or just mistaken people... but people nonetheless. There are a surprisingly large number of people right now today who sincerely believe and argue that the Earth is flat! AI wouldn't even do that.

That's because an AI doesn't believe in anything. It just regurgitates its data that seem to follow what you want to hear, because it's been programmed to. It doesn't know what "right" is, only which words are related to it. LLMs' default "personalities" can be manipulated by whoever trains it, and can be filtered to increase or decrease/eliminate the likelihood of any topic. It's basically auto-correct on steroids. The big ones tend to not go into nasty or controversial topics (At least without a lot of disclaimers) because that would be a liability to their creators.

Back to the original intent, or at least what I think the original intent was... using AI to compensate for being extremely lonely. I agree with that assessment. AI is not even remotely close to a substitute for true connection with another human being. Even if/when AI becomes as good as it can be and maybe seems like it is properly simulating human conversation... even in what if sci-fi fantasy where AI becomes "sentient" it still will not be a substitute for another human being.

AI has been around in some form almost since the beginning of computers... it's not going anywhere. The current trend of talking about it, whinging about it, etc... that will go away... and the AI will continue to be developed and implemented.

The frenzy is the bad thing, though. It's what made big corporations put boatloads of money into it: Progress without vision, made to profit and to grow, like a cancer.

When Gen AI stops being a frenzy, and stabilizes, mean that devs closer to earth will be at the forefront of its developement. Things will progress slower, sure, but more safely, and with more conscience. With the techbros out, Gen AI finally has a chance to be the change we wanted, and not the one we got.

It's not the technology itself that's the problem, it's the heads behind it, and how committed they are on profiting over everything else.

Fyi. ChatGPT knows your location if you don't use a VPN, you can check the same response with new chats and it will always give out the location , when questioned , it will defend itself even if you show multiple screenshots from multiple conversations, it will always say that it's a coincidence no matter what you type.

Edit: Obviously it has your location, however, it should say "Yes I have your location, good to point it out" not "I don't know what you're talking about, it's a coincidence" especially after you present yourself as a person who is not an oaf, if you "play" with ChatGPT in this way, it takes you maximum 10 conversations to see how many injections of stupidity it gets when certain subjects are mentioned, it's literally a google search that is interactive, nothing less, nothing more.

It feeds what it thinks you want to hear, when you are smarter than it (not in knowledge) but in character and experience, it will show, it's like you are talking to a toddler who read every book in the world but understood none of them.

But now, you can put in directives for your AI assistant in Chat GPT and Google Gemini specifically so that it doesn't sugarcoat answers and isn't biased in your favor. And with these directives, I think it makes these LLMs very useful for what I like to use them for~

I don't like the idea of AI being used to make artificial art for commercial use. Also, there have been times where I've gotten a hallucination for a response. But, the hallucination issues are already being addressed and are getting better and I think will continue to get better over time.

I know AI LLMs will never be perfect, but I still like to use them. I think they're useful, and I think they're fun — and I think it's okay to have that opinion.

AI doesn't offend me but it doesn't impress me. In the 1970s there was a program called "Eliza" that was very rudimentary AI and mostly answered questions with questions, but it learned from your responses to it... and honestly, it was only marginally less capable than today's... except for being unable to generate graphics and animations... but then back then computers weren't really being used for that anyway.

AI is only mildly entertaining because it is very limited. The videos and animations are repetitive and you can tell... and the conversations are similarly repetitive and uninteresting to me after more than a few iterations. I just find it lacking.

AI is a little fun and a little neat...that's it. It's a diversion that may amuse for a short time. You're enjoying that little diversion, and that's fine, having fun is, but I don't think they're anything but little toys for now, and they shouldn't be treated as anything but little toys. They're not terminators that are going to steal our jobs, no matter how much techbros want them to be.

I use image generation for personal purposes, but I don't think they are art, or any close to beating human stuff. (Unless those artists can't count limbs correctly hahahah.) Honestly, I can't fathom how any artist worth their salt can be scared at AI for stealing his income. The only things human artists will lose is soul-draining jobs at the megacrops that would love to pay workers peanuts for their actually good art. If that's the case, I see that as an absolute win.
