Hello everyone. I noticed a distinct lack of military gas masks in the use of inert gas methods, I've come across somebody using a Russian gas mask, but nothing NATO related. I know 99% of the forum does not own a NATO gas mask, though even if you won't gain any info in this thread, it may be a fun read still. I've attached pictures for anyone who wants to get a closer look.

The biggest hitch in my journey was being able to connect my regulator to my gas mask. Not entirely sure how exactly big the gas output is, it's somewhere around 8 or 10mm in diameter and the gas mask intake is 40mm NATO. There is NOT a single common adapter or thread out there where you can buy something for 5-10$ and forget about it. The only thing that screws down properly into that intake is a 40mm to 40mm gas mask extension hose and that doesn't help at all.

The hose connection to the mask looks extremely suspicious. I originally intended to get a second hose that was big enough to fit over the filter thread, secure it down with clamps and then connect the hoses with an adapter in the middle. Unfortunately, my country's customs, in their infinite wisdom, decided not to let my little adapter pieces through, so that approach is impossible for me.

I decided to use a silicone sealant, something called a "Liquid Gasket". At first I wasn't very sure of it, but testing with soap showed no leaks at all.
The regulator shows clocks in about 150 bar, providing me about with about 50 minutes of nitrogen at 15 Lpm.

There will always be a little skepticism in the back of my mind, but the math checks out. Soap tested to make sure there are no gas leaks, I have enough N2 on hand and the gas mask is good enough to seal air and let out CO2 once you tighten those straps around your head.

I would love feedback on this, doesn't matter if you're into inert gas or not. I feel like I've done the best I could in these conditions, though my wallet is very unhappy with me considering all this equipment costed an arm and a leg.

You couldn't get a "barb" fitting? Why wouldn't the "40mm to 40mm gas mask extension hose" screwed into the inlet have helped? You could have screwed the one end into the inlet of the mask, cut the other 40mm fitting off the other end, and just joined another hose to that hose with a barb, could you not? You could have even just used a piece of metal tubing with clamos that fit ok into the hose itself to join another hose to the one from the mask. Maybe I'm missing something in your post.

I tried to. didn't clear customs. I ordered actual parts to make this a more professional system but it got foiled. It was supposed to be a tri-clamp assembly from 3/8" to 1-1/2" and two hoses. the gas mask extension would probably never clear customs either.

The size difference is just too big to do it otherwise without using multiple adapters or hoses, to my research. I don't really have any money to go further into the research of this. In any case, this guy works. I ran it at the usual amount for about a bit with soap. Not a leak to be found, and the gas transfers nicely into the mask.

That really is all that matters then.

How much did this cost? I'd prefer gas or some pill combo if possible.

around 230USD$. No matter whether you go for an exit bag, a scuba mask or whatever, majority of the cost is gonna come from the regulator and the gas tank itself in my experience. I was quite lucky with the gas mask, I scored it from someone for about 25 dollars, which is unusually cheap. I suggest you look into scuba masks for inert gas as well, and maybe do some window shopping of your own to calculate how much it would cost for you.
