I have watched both Smile 1 and Smile 2, (the one that had the injection scene and not the other smile movies), they are very great, I'm still waiting for Smile 3.

My suicide: director's cut is really good, it's about a dude filming the lead up to his suicide as his final film project for school.

Depression/mental illness is a pretty big theme in the sopranos. The show's about a new jersey mob boss in the 90's who starts having panic attacks and is forced to see a psychiatrist. It's one of my favorite shows and really accurate in its portrayal of mental illnesses compared to other shows and movies. A big part of it is also dealing with the stigma surrounding mental illness.

love the smile movies. i dont really think of them as suicide movies though as its the smile entity killing the people rather than their actual selves

I stand alone (1998). The guy is really depressed/suicidal becauae his life just sucks and at the end he tries his hardest to talk himself into CTB. It's crazy how you see someone struggling with SI so much.

I really enjoyed 'The Menu' (2022) recently. It's not really your typical 'depressed or mentally ill person' commits suicide though. More like suicide/ murder as protest I suppose.

I saw it on Netflix but haven't actually watched it as of yet. Is it any good?

The show Mr. Robot, while not JUST about mental illness and suicide, does a great job in portraying what trauma, depression, loneliness, social anxiety, drug addiction feel like. All while being very entertaining with one of the best writing and filming I've experienced.
It's my favorite show and it helped me get through a lot.

I've wanted to watch "It's Such a Beautiful Day" but I haven't yet so I can't tell you anything about it

Also I personally a huge fan of Vewn. Not all of her stuff is about mental illness specifically, but I feel like she just... gets it?

They're just shorts, I know it's not what you asked for, but there aren't many of them and they are worth a watch. I hope you like surrealism?

I like "Ginny and Georgia". It contains characters who struggle with a lot of different things. Such as self-harm, suicide, ED, CPTSD and more.

A bit of a shallow Hollywood movie, but Leaving Las Vegas is quite a good brain holiday of a movie. Main character goes to Las Vegas is drink himself to death.

The Sunset limited. Great movie tbh, but might not be relatable, since many of us here aren't just going through existential crisis, but also got real troubling issues.

I actually watched this movie in order to stop drinking alcohol, thinking it would motivate me.

I just stopped watching the movie midway instead šŸ˜‘

The Punisher (starring Thomas Jane), Shutter Island, A Beautiful Mind aren't bad.

It can be interesting to compare films to novels / biographies.

House of Sand & Fog (2003), Jennifer Connolly and Ben Kingsley.

For anyone who likes artsy/nuanced/abstract, there's Cold War (2018) and Nine Days (2020) with Winston Duke, Zazie Beetz, etc.
