I have started my preparations and am seeking information on the most reliable firearm for ctb. I assume a handgun but unsure of which.

In the US, if you are really short of funds there are some single shot shotguns for $100. Next step up is the maverick 88 by mossberg. $200 for a really well made gun made in the US, though some parts are made in Mexico. There are some other guns also in this price range. They are usually pump action but for ctb that shouldn't be a consideration. Be on the lookout for a gun with a short or defense barrel. They will be 18" - 20" most will be 18.5 inches. If you need more information or just want to talk about guns just message me.

Shotgun is definitely going to work but do you have any recommendations on handgun? I'm looking at Glock g17 since it has a bit longer barrel length for speed and easier handling.

I can buy one of these no problem. It's literally just a matter of texting the guy and going to an ATM. Why won't I do it? Just do it.

Don't know the best model but a shotgun blast in the mouth has a lethality 99% but definitely you should never shot a firearm under your chin

With a handgun caliber is more important than barrel length. Many guns have multiple barrel length options for the gun. For instance I have a gun with a 3.8 inch barrel but can also get with a 4.5 inch barrel. Get a gun that feels good in your hand.

With caliber bigger is better. .45 acp, .40 s&w, 10mm auto, 9mm luger, .357 magnum, .38 special are the most common sizes. Any of these should have enough power.

Very correct.

What about a handgun? Are they not viable?

Yes, you are correct. I know very little and should have clarified. Since I'm a novice my thought is something powerful but also I can control so I don't miss or otherwise mess up. Glock is known for reliability and g17 has good control and speed for a 9mm based on barrel length

I could go more powerful route but i already feel like an imposter and 9mm route seems safest. I have looked at higher calibers. If any handgun suggestions I'm happy to listen

Post 13 of this thread has information about choosing a handgun. I would still prefer shooting intraoral. Just above or behind the ear will work as long as care is taken with aiming.

The biggest difference between glock and the others is the angle of the grip, if you haven't shot a lot of handguns then it is a non factor. If you have it may take a couple magazines to retrain yourself.

The rest are basically the same angle. One of my favorite guns is my Springfield Armory xd-m in 9mm, 3.8" barrel and bicolor. It looks really nice and it's easy to aim. It backs up my Mossberg 500. My everyday carry is a Sig Sauer P-365 with a really nice leather holster. It has a red dot integrated with the finger guard.

Other companies I'd look at are Baretta, Smith & Wesson, Walther, Kimber, Roger, FN, and Colt. There are a bunch others that I haven't shot so I can't recommend them, but there are many that I've heard good things about.

There is at least one way to keep control of a 12ga. If I were wanting to ctb by gun my first choice is my 12ga. If I decide to use a pistol I'd use both 9 mms, one intraoral and the other just behind my ear.

:haha: I can think of several things that are very lethal. A train running over you neck and decapitate your head. 1ÂĽ ounces of lead ripping through your brain is also lethal. My uncle chose to drink battery acid, it was a nasty way to go but survivability is not possible. Drink 25 to 70 grams of SN on a stomach prepared with meto. Tape 6 sticks of dynamite around your body and I bet your body decides it's lethal. Pour a gallon of gasoline on yourself and light it, your body won't be able to die fast enough. Jump off the sky bridge over the Grand Canyon and bounce off the canyon walls before you hit the bottom, it is a very long drop. Jack up a wheel on my 10 ton truck and release the jack so the wheel lands on my chest. An eighty pound angled & sharped blade dropping 14 feet onto my neck will lop off my head, think guillotine. There is absolutely no cases of survival of total decapitation regardless of what you body says.

There is no decision for your body to make. If you shoot through you brain stem, or even the midbrain or the pons, it is going to be lights out. You are correct in saying that you will be brain damaged, your brain will be damaged enough that it is not able to function any more, you will be dead.

I have adamantly said the proper method to ctb by gun is to shoot yourself intraorally, in your mouth. The next option is to shoot yourself just above or behind your ear. The two shots that have proven to not be successful is a gun, usually shotgun, under the chin. The other is to put a handgun to your temple. The first sometimes just shoots you face off leaving you seriously maimed. The second can shot through one hemisphere and not the other or just on the edge. The other issue of both is not aiming at the parts of the brain that control life. You can end up damaging the parts that are for higher functions.
