I used to be so interested in meditation and things that could improve the state of the mind. I've found it really hard to utilize those things this time around, but I know they can still be useful. Have others had good experiences?

It take years of practice to achieve great results, but I started last week and im doing as a obligation. The one im doing is called zazen.

it's really difficult for me to keep up with regular meditation (or regular anything) but doing a "body scan" sometimes helps calm me down when i'm in crisis mode

Do you find difficult to sit down and focus on the breathing for 30 minutes a day?

If you are stuck in bed with depressive symptoms is really hard, of course, but if you are doing the usual daily activities, than you just have to include one more. Think about as an obligation, like brushing teeth or something you have to do everyday. Or try to read the benefits of doing it. Perhaps this encourage you.
In my case, a movie gave me the final motivation i was looking for.

I think meditation is harmful. The human brain is like the stomach, it needs input to function in a healthy way. Letting it go empty or turn on itself is destructive. Negative things can only be replaced by positive things, they cannot go away by either staring at them or trying to push them away. Get up and do the dishes rather than meditating, if you can do nothing else.

Any narrative of 'working on yourself' is bound to fail and it has always failed in my observation of people. Working on life makes you more functional. It is sad and ironic that the more people go down that rabbit hole, the more they are blind to what is obvious to any functional people around them: They are obsessed with themselves.

Not to mention that practices like this are inevitably bound up with certain idelogies that victim-blame and encourage other unhealthy attitudes.

I think it can be helpful for some people.
If they are in a state where they are not in the mood to have a shower or do the dishes,

perhaps it's worth experimenting to first meditate to elevate your mood,
so that you can start consider doing the things that are good for you and eventually get to it due to motivation/mindfulness.

I think there is great power in meditation but it requires the understanding that you won't have results over night. You have to practice over a very long time. However once you have it, you'll be extremely happy that you have it. It's something I want to work on in the future. Until then I just have rituals that are useful but not the same.

I don't know how to meditate and with so much anxiety not sure I can. someone suggested to me guided meditation. When my nightmares and insomnia are bad I do listen to binural beats and try to focus on the tones to stop my brain from over thinking. It has helped me sleep at times.

Classic meditation didn't work for me, unfortunately. I just can't focus, and it only makes me more anxious. The type of meditation I use is going in nature and paying attention to my senses, or, if I'm stuck at home, having a cup of tea at the window, looking at trees, cars, people, buildings. I guess it's called mindfulness meditation? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
