Hello, I am from Korea.

Korea's top fatality rate for teenagers to 40s recently was suicide. Cancer ranked second.
Korea's suicide rate is far higher than the OECD average.

In Korea, 40 people commit suicide every day. The Korean population is only 50 million.

Maybe I'm from the country that best suits this forum.

I'm also thinking of CTB.
I have a good job, a master's degree, a German car, but my life is not happy.

I have secured some tickets for the CTB. Luckily, it is easier to get tickets in Korea than in other countries.
Of course, you can't get "N" or drugs (or opioids),
It's very easy to get 99% helium gas or SN.
(However, many people still hang themselves, or commit suicide from carbon monoxide poisoning.)

I don't know how many Koreans there will be in this forum, but I want to talk about information about the 'Suicide Republic'.

I am sorry that my English is not good.
I hope all of you here are happy.

Hello and welcome to the community.

I recently asked ChatGPT about suicide related stats per country, and it gave as key contributing factors the following:

1759057278514

And for country-specific insights:

1759057058537

Would you agree, or can you relate somewhat? Whatever your reason may be, I wish you all the best on this journey.

I'm thinking of traveling to Korea. You said that SN is easy to get, but my Korean friend told me that you need some kind of registration card to buy it as an individual. If I travel to Korea, will I be able to get it?

40 people per day. That's 14,600 annually. Those numbers are tragic and astonishing.

Wow, and you think for all those people how many friends and families will be affected by the loss, every single year.

Plus the people that attempt and aren't successful!

The sad part is that the numbers around suicide are rarely accurate. They only record it as a suicide when it's confirmed by evidence, i.e. a note, etc. I recently read that the numbers of unreported suicides would increase the overall by 30% or more.
I expect those numbers to jump up exponentially as the economy and political situations continue to deteriorate, especially in the US. It's beyond tragic.

Wonder if governments will actually do something to improve people's lives instead of just restricting methods.

"help is available" mfers don't realise that help really just isn't available. There are all these awareness campaigns for services which just don't do anything or have insane waitlists. Like yes I'm sure the suicide hotline can magically make my life not torture

This reminds me of the suicide bridge in Korea.

The "Bridge of Life"

Pretty interesting read, perfectly encapsulate how us and the normals will never reach an understanding.

Long story short, suicide rate increased 6 fold the following year after the "help".

I have frequently wondered this myself but have come to the conclusion that humanity has gone off the rails. Traits like empathy and kindness, virtues of an intelligent society, are now considered signs of weakness. From my view, this is especially true of capitalist countries.

For example, here in America and the Republican Party's decree of "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" expects us to fend for ourselves because no one is coming to help us. Meanwhile, they feed at the trough of private interest and insider trading deals while Americans are suffering more than ever.

Greed is the new God. People are being fed through a system from birth to death, purely for profit. It's tragic and disgusting to witness and worse to be forced to live through it.

The suicide awareness campaigns are all just lip service to make non-suicidal people feel better that they're actually doing something. I hate whenever there's a reddit post or an article mentioning suicide and they have to put a million hotlines and links at the bottom.

Think its like 50k in US but could be mistaken (bigger population though). Think many people cover up their suicide to protect loved ones and for insurance purposes.

Saying the system is fundamentally flawed would be stating the painfully obvious. The real problem is that there's no real interest in fixing it.

I think the whole capitalist experiment is coming to a close. The stock value of companies has completely detached from any tangible real world value. All Western governments are hooked on debt to finance their failing public services. I can see a major economic depression in the near future which will not be kind to the already suffering.

It's brutal. When I actually got seen I got the feeling they couldn't wait to see me out the door.

Over 49,000 confirmed deaths by suicide* and over 1,500,000 suicide attempts were made in 2023 in the US.
That's one successful suicide every 11 minutes and over 4,100 attempts every day.
*This does not include the unconfirmed or unreported suicides from that year.
Regardless, the numbers are staggering.

That is inhumane. What country are you in?

I saw a documentary on YouTube about how hard life is in South Korea. I believe it was this video:

It's insane. Truly tragic 💔

I felt like a box ticking exercise to cover their backs. No real concern to help me. Even the notes left out crucial issues i was struggling with. SS gave me more support

Yup exactly the same experience. They just cared about 'safeguarding' and covering their own backs. It wasn't tailored to me or even about me, they were just following a rigid process and used questionaires to see how much 'progress' I'd made, despite the fact that life circumstances can change from week to week.
