I think true crime is quite popular among the population. I find them rather boring. I tend to more extreme stories. I think one can say it is voyeurism in some way and immoral.
I quit watching gore a long time ago gladly. But the motivations (for many) might be similar. But would you say that watching gore is for many on here and equivalent to listening to true crime practiced by normies? I know some people on here watch gore for educational purpose to learn more about their method though.
Some weeks ago I went down the wrong rabbit hole on dark stories on Youtube. And so many were so harmless. I had to chuckle people think these stories were shocking. I mean on SaSu there are way more tragic story and no third person makes a quick buck with them. However, the media coverage about the 764 community hit me hard.
There are so many fictional media productions that depict misery and dark topics. But most of it is invented and never happened. I think many people are attracted by dark stories. Are we just on different levels and why? I went through a lot of abuse in my life. I listened to very shocking stories and I experienced a lot of insane shit. I think I need something similar as horrible to spark a feeling of shock. In some way it is also comforting to know one is not alone with one's own living nightmare. And it is comforting that are people who go through similar shit or even worse.
Moreover, it gives you something to worry about. And this can distract you from your usual worrying patterns. Lol.
