Hi,

I over the past 5 years have been in a constant state of overwhelming anxiety and it isn't something I want to live with anymore.
That being said, I like many people, have been too afraid to attempt because the thought of eternal nothingness is quite daunting, which I know is logically silly to say.

My friend hanged himself a couple years ago, and I always thought that's the way I want to go; But, the videos I have watched never provide me with any sort of solace.
Is it bad that I want to "commit" to a plan, and back out relatively quickly so there is no long term damage - almost as a way to show people I am hurt and I don't know what to do?

I understand this comes across as attention seeking, and I apologise as I am truly not that kind of person - I have just lost all sense of reason, I am scared.

To anyone this offends, I am sorry
Thanks.

Hi, I totally understand the desire to fail at suicide as a cry for help to those around you.

If you choose to make such a suicidal gesture, it is imperative that you choose a method with low lethality and then seek medical help immediately afterwards.

One example of such a method would be an overdose of acetaminophen. Acetaminophen overdose already by itself has low lethality, and as long as you seek medical attention within a few hours (<6 hours), they will give you the antidote, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), which is 100% effective at preventing liver damage if administered in time.

This is just an example. Please research thoroughly the potential medical consequences of any suicidal gesture before making it. You also need to consider the fact that it will have additional consequences beyond making your cry for help known, including but not limited to a stay in a psych ward, which is not very fun for most people, to say the least.

Yeah I completely understand that - thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

I should add that you should NOT attempt this with hanging. If you fail to pull yourself up in time you WILL most likely die.

Welcome to SaSu!

Why would you want to fail an attempt? There are risks that you feel worse after a failed attempt than before. You may even suffer permanent damage.

Are there really no other ways for you to receive appropriate treatment?

I get it, though. Sometimes there is no other way to make the people in your life understand that your suicidal ideation is serious than a failed attempt. Sometimes even a failed attempt isn't enough.

You dont want to end up with any kind of permanent damage and you may not get the reaction you want out of people. Its ok to check yourself into the hospital tell them you are having thoughts of hurting yourself and want to be admitted

I've just always felt like a fraud doing that, you know? Like there are people in there that are courageous enough to try it, and I am just there because I signed myself in.

Seeking medical help (treatment/therapy) isn't sth to be ashamed of. You're also not a fraud if you seek help bc it's your right!
