Apparently in my state you don't need a gun License to purchase a firearm! I had no idea until I looked up the laws recently. GOD BLESS AMERICA! I also have a lot of money saved so I can just buy whatever the fuck I want!! I live with my parents so I still have to skirt around them, but I'm so so so happy. I, thinking of going with a .45. I was reading posts from people who survived GSW to the head and they all said it wasn't painful :D I'm so fucking happy lmfso. I just have to get my finances and will in order.

If i could buy a gun, i would be lowkey as happy as a kid who got a ps5.

Just a tip. If you go through with it ... do it standing in a knee deep lake at least. You don't want your life being 10x worse.

so, i can either wait 1 year to get one at a store or somehow make a friend but i am sadly thinking i wont be able to do this, and that 1 year is worth the wait to either talk to a friend on skids row or attempt to buy my own. i really am desperate and would do alot. i dont know if people can message me with helpful ideas but please do if theres an option on this site for that.

Just wanted to say that if I went with a .45 (with anything that isn't a shotgun, really), I'd use jacketed hollow points (also +P, I think), personally. But keep in mind that there are different types of JHP and some are more reliable than others. I'd also fire it at a range first and practice a lot to get comfortable with aiming correctly and to decrease the chance of flinching when I did it. And I'd also use blood thinners to increase the chance of catastrophic blood loss even if the GSW itself was initially non-lethal. Also, tbh I'd do it in a body of water of reasonable depth like a river or lake with a weighted vest just to be safe.

There is also the guns/firearms megathread in case you weren't aware of that; it's worth reading. I don't know which position is the best - in the mouth pointed upward at a slight angle (the goal is to hit the medulla oblongata or, failing that, the uppermost cervical vertebrae) or behind the ear.

None of this is advice, of course, and I am by no means an expert. I'm only saying what I personally would do if I used this method.

I would never do it with a pistol, too much risk of becoming a vegetable in my opinion.

This comment is scaring me & I am finally almost ready 😢

(I'm sure I have also done the same to other people posting lots of fears and information I have found about survivors.)

I'm pretty sure that the most common firearm used in CTBs that worked is actually a handgun. Even though shotgun methods are more likely tonot have a survivor. Although, when people asked what is more lethal, most of the responders with firearms experience answer that all guns are lethal and that shot placement determines lethality more than caliber or type of gun.

Sometimes, I wish I was less anxious and my impulsivity was stronger. I think probably a lot of people who completed CTB didn't even do that much research, if any. Which has its pros & cons. But if you don't do much research, you won't have anxiety caused by all the ways it could go wrong since you won't have any knowledge of what they are. Ironically, if I had less anxiety, I might not have as strong of an urge to CTB 😭
