but the fear of failure is stopping me from making any serious attempts... Anyone have any ideas on how to get over this fear of failure... I don't want to end up in a worse position than I am already in.. My preferred methods would be a shotgun to the head or a long drop hanging

I think to overcome it you have to find a way with a low survival rate and make sure its
a. at a quiet location you won't be interrupted
b. you have enough time to do it - people won't be looking for you and saving you
c. it's not prolonged enough that you might change your mind and then later regret it because it went on long enough to damage your body
