According to our toxicologist and pharmacist, these cases of (near) failure with hydroxychloroquine due to diarrhea and / or vomiting are no reason to dissuade this medicine. In the case of an overdose of hydroxychloroquine, we suggest taking loperamide (Imodium® or Diacure®), an anti-diarrhea remedy: according to this schedule: 12 mg 12 hours in advance (2 capsules a 2 mg); repeat this twice: 6 hours in advance and 2 hours in advance. Loperamide, however, does not guarantee that diarrhea will be eliminated.
