i see so many people being able to cut themselfs to the dermis but i cant get past the epidermis. I use a blade from a pencil sharpner so that might be why but any tips?
I don't think we're fully allowed to give very specific advice on how to self harm or how to drive it into more risky territory (I could be wrong however).
My apologies, stay and keep safe by only using clean tools to do so if you really must. A pencil sharpener blade is not sterile at all, especially if used.
Cutting deeper isn't worth it at all. If you are looking to feel more "valid" by cutting deeper (like a lot of people do, including me), you are mistaken. There is no permanent satisfaction or feeling of validity, you'll only end up rewriting your brain to crave self-harm more and make it significantly harder to stop. Dermis is also when you start risking your physical safety (infections, cutting nerve endings and venules/arterioles) and scars will most likely be permanent. Please don't compare yourself to other people who self-harm, as it is a very slippery slope and a difficult mindset to let go of. Talking from experience. It's seriously not worth it. My tip for you is to stop while you can, as it gets much harder the more you escalate

I really appreciate the kindness! I am trying to stop but I'm having really bad urges and cant cut deeper for some reason. Do I need to use an actual razor blade.

As someone who self harms a lot , it's all about what you use . Honestly deep cuts are not worth it because you could hit a vein and end up in the hospital .That's the only advice I could give you.
Deep epidermis/ very shallow dermis hurts the most. You don't feel anything beyond deep dermis (unless u cut a nerve or into muscle) fyi. Speaking from experience. I'd advise you look for alternatives to self harm. You can talk to a therapist about this and they can usually help you find better coping mechanisms. Wishing the best for you
