i do not want to talk about how depressed i am but i talk about it anyway. someone help. embarrassment will kill me before my suicide does. it is so embarrassing to be depressed and accidentally talk about it like it's small talk. it will be my friend's birthday soon and i DON'T want to talk about being jealous of him for not being isolated so i'm ignoring him even though that's also bad. what do you people do. i just watch jerma on my phone. i don't know how people survive their 20s. my friends will put me on a big wooden cross for being annoying and depressed.

Well shit, if I knew how to do that, I'd have friends!

On a (truly only very slightly) more serious note, if I had to fake not being a bummer for a birthday party, I'd probably do my best to bounce off the interests and topics that the other people at the party were talking about. I'd focus on asking a lot of "who/what/when/where/why/how" questions when people start talking about things that they're excited about. I'd practice my best fake laugh a few times before the party, and (depending on how much energy I had) I might even prepare a fake interest or two, either by reading weird wikipedia articles or watching a few weird youtube videos.

And I would promise myself, over and over, that whatever I do, I'm *not* going to ask my friend "hey, are you peanut butter? Because I'm super jelly that you're not suicidally depressed and that people like you!!!!! =^w^= ".

Not sure how well any of that would work, but it's probably what I would (at least try to) do. Curious to see if anyone else comes up with better answers.... you know, for a friend, and definitely not for me. Best of luck with the birthday <3

Don't, you shouldn't have to lie to people to make friends.
I have plenty of friends who are okay with me talking about depressive stuff, self harm, suicide, etc. You just need to find the right people to be with.

Sometimes I mask my depressive thoughts behind humor and jokes, so that we can laugh at the sadness together
