What is the consensus on hanging being a painful method or not?

I recently attempted partial hanging twice and didn't feel much pain at all. The discomfort was due to a bit of choking/coughing but I passed out pretty quick. Afterwards I noticed soreness in my neck.

I imagine full would be the same?

The pain of hanging comes from the type of ropes you use. Sometimes, I've had to use a belt because I can't afford ropes right now since my mom is gets into a metal breakdown. The pain from the belt feels like strangulation, but I think using a soft rope is more about hitting something in neck to make you pass out. have you ever felt any suffocation while doing it?

This is the rope I used

I felt a little bit of suffocating at the beginning but I honestly passed out so quickly it wasn't an issue.

Hanging pain can come from a poor choice of rope or a bad setup.
Get a good rope and research so you do it right.
There are also a lot of terrible posts about the "horrors" of hanging. Like every method, there are those that enjoy peddling chaos.
We have enough chaos these days. Ask questions if needed.

Tried with a 12 mm polypropylene rope, used folded socks around carotid area. I tried via partial and could feel myself losing consciousness very quickly with tbh little to no pain, maybe mild discomfort. Problem is SI kicked in, might need to change the setup or try for something closer to full hanging so that death would be guaranteed.

Like Worndown says, research the method. Don't do this impulsively.

When we were kids we played fight games, and would choke each other out. It doesnt take long in a full nelson, and other then some panic at first there isnt much pain. As others have said the ligature is always the problem. Thats what decides success, or failure. Any little bit of pain that can be eliminated from the process is going to help advance the end game. Why? : Because SI is going to be there also.
