Food grade SN?

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have a similar yet opposite question: does SN have to be food grade to be edible? Or can it be lab/industrial grade? The reason I'm asking is because I bought 98% pure SN from a lab supplies vendor instead of a food supplier.
Both are acceptable, whether laboratory-grade or food-grade, as long as their purity is not lower than 95%. Food-grade SN (E250), by law, must have a purity of at least 97% to be sold as such. Therefore, unlike laboratory-grade SN, they cannot lie about its purity.
