I was ruminating on different ways to die and it occurred to me booze is usually not mentioned as a notably good or bad method. Why is that? After all, drinking yourself to death* has historically been a fairly common way to die, whether on purpose or not. In my area, alcohol abuse is still pretty much the standard when it comes to being self-destructive or losing your handle on life.

*in the short-term sense, though naturally also the long-term one

I've never gotten blackout drunk due to the calories, but I figure it can't be that unpleasant since kids do it all the time. Is there some obvious reason I shouldn't down a bottle or two and let myself lose consciousness, either secured on my back or out in the snow someplace remote?

I was just thinking this! I'm going out Saturday and was thinking how much would I need to drink to die. I've actually passed out from alcohol poisoning when I was a student and woke up in hospital but I can't remember how much I drank.

For those unaccustomed to heavy drinking, about a blood alcohol of 3 ‰ or 0,3 % starts to be lethal. Tolerance varies, though.

It's difficult to drink yourself to death. Drinking enough to cause liver damage takes years and it's a painful way to die - not at all peaceful. Trying to acutely drink enough to cause death is even more difficult. Your body will start expelling the alcohol at some point before it even makes it into your system, and before you can reach a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) high enough to kill you, and even that varies from person to person. You are far more likely to pass out LONG before reaching a lethal BAC. You *might* have better odds accomplishing death by alcohol poisoning by boofing it, but I'm not 100% certain on that.

In the immortal words of Ozzy and company, death by excessive alcohol consumption is a slow and terrible process. You will most likely do more damage and survive, and end up in a worse situation then when you started.

Saw a guy die from it when overseas. Partied too much not ctb attempt. Watched a body cam video where the lady had a .3 bac from drinking vanilla extract. Don't know how much it took to get there.

If it were this easy to drink yourself to death, we would have a lot more dead college students. Alcohol is a poison and your body will fight you tooth and nail to excrete it in whatever way possible before it kills you, including vomiting profusely. You are far more likely to vomit and pass out before you can consume enough to actually kill you.

Believe me, when you get that drunk, it is absolutely hell before passing out. As stated by others you will be holding back vomiting or spewing your guts out - and the room spinning during this makes the most devout atheist pray to god and promise to never drink again.

Yeah, death from straight-up alcohol poisoning would be pretty damn hard, but what about passing out and either choking on your vomit or freezing to death in the winter? I don't doubt that's somewhat unpleasant either, but people get blackout drunk all the time anyway.

Also, dying by shoving alcoholic popsicles up your ass is definitely going on my top 10 funniest ways to go.

You can get extremely drunk (whiskey 40% or something) and jump into water (which I will actually do). Alcohol heavily suppresses the central nervous system.

Assuming we're only talking about drinking alcohol, I'm betting on highest purity alcohol spirits. I think some brands legally sell 190 proof (95%) alcohol for consumption.

If I were to drink myself to death I would absolutely just do it rectally. You need FAR less alcohol and it hits you far faster. Also you avoid the body's natural reaction to puke it up. There's been cases on accidental death by boofing alcohol at college parties/highschool experimentation.

A lot of the people who die from immediate alcohol deaths are people who pass out, and are unable to throw up and end up choking on their own vomit. Of course, that really isn't something you can plan for so it wouldn't be recommended. Usually, you will just pass out and wake up feeling like absolute garbage.

In terms of long term drinking to CTB, it's usually a very slow process. You slowly do damage to yr organs and this will lead to organ failure and other issues like heart disease and cancer. Its been said to be a very painful ordeal so probably not recommended either.
