Germany cannot stop talking about this scandal. Our laws concerning deep fake porn might be changed over it. I hope this sums it up. I copy pasted it from her English wikipedia entry.

In March 2026, Der Spiegel reported that Fernandes had filed a complaint against her ex-husband Ulmen with the district court in Palma, alleging, among other things, identity theft, public defamation, and assault. He is alleged to have created fake social media accounts in her name over the course of several years to distribute fake nude photos and videos of her; she felt "virtually raped." Ulmen hired media lawyer Christian Schertz to take legal action against Der Spiegel. Schertz considers the reporting unlawful because it spreads "untrue facts based on a one-sided account." Without commenting on the validity of the allegations in this specific case, Federal Minister of Justice Stefanie Hubig, in response to the publication of the allegations against Ulmen, spoke out about existing gaps in criminal liability and called for harsher punishment for perpetrators of digital violence.

He allegedly used an AI voice over to fake her voice to pretend he was his wife who has phone sex. Allegedly it was about power and control of her. This was his kink. He even played a role in a series where he took a similar role where he made jokes about it. At the same time he called himself a role model feminist.
He already lost ad deals over it. It reminds me of the scandal where a German nationalteam soccerplayer was caught spreading child porngraphy. It appears weird to me that the Fernandes case is more reported on in comparison. I think he was charged guilty by a court. In the case of Ulmen there is no judgement yet.

In general I think you will hear stories from people where the life was destroyed irreversibly over media prejudgement. There were many cases in history where the mainstream narrative was completely wrong. Despite the fact with the available information it sounded clear and obvious the story was proven to be wrong. At the same time there are many stories where the perpetrator wasn't punished by courts. And he went scott free. And the media coverage was forgotten pretty early. And they just moved on with their lives while the victims suffer forever. I think one pillar of this discussion is the question whether our judicial system works properly or not. I just finished my re-watch of Death Note and I know which answer Light Yagami gave.

I read the story of Ulmen and Fernanded and he sounds guilty as fuck. It sounds like she is right with her accusations. However, I didn't hear his version of the story. I won't give you a definitive answer. I am not a moral authority I just want to spark a discussion. People wiill have diametrical opinions based on their cultural preferences and shaped by their own biography. I think if I was a victim of one side I would be a staunch supporter of that side in a discussion.

I think in this case, it would be hard for Ulmen to say anything that would not tarnish him further or make it more difficult to defend himself in court.

He sounds like an absolute sack of crap.

In general I would say that perpetrators rarely get punished because they rarely get reported to begin with.

But of the subset of those that do get punished and their story reaches the media: it completely depends on who publishes it.
If its a tabloid, it will have to be sensationalized more than the last story to get views, but ultimately will be swept away by the next even more sensationalist story.
If its more of a mainstream outlet, it will depend on how they report: do they have a neutral tone, do they have political leanings?

Its completely impossible to be free of bias, but if anything technology can at least preserve what proof there is of wrongdoing (overblown or not) which is more than what countless victims throughout history got. I don't have the authority or knowledge to say whether that's ultimately good bc if ends up preserving AI slopstories, then it will benefit nobody in the long run.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about Der Spiegel's biases as I don't read German and can't confirm for myself. If Ulmen is guilty I hope the court system is fair in the trial. That's my two cents.
