not too sure if this counts as cheating, it's more of getting extra help in difficult parts of games... I usually try to figure out puzzles in games by myself, but sometimes I just CANNOT figure it out. I like to skim a small walkthrough of the game and if that's too hard for me, I'll search up a walkthrough on YT.

I had to do this for a game I'm playing now called Secret Little Haven. It's a good game, but the random complex puzzle out of nowhere in a game where you mainly read was a shock to me

Yes, on most games but I never play online and tend to play games on older consoles. I've always had anger management issues and get easily frustrated dying repeatedly, missing a jump or fighting with bad controls/camera etc.

Me too. I'll usually try 2 or 3 times and then watch a video tutorial. Thank goodness for YouTube! The most frustrating for me is when I can't find something. A way to turn off the laser fence or something. It always seems obvious when it's pointed out.

I never cheat in online games, but I'm happy to cheat in offline games to avoid a tedious grind (going to the point of using cheat engine to manipulate values in memory to give myself extra resources).

Now, I wouldn't say I cheat, just that I prefer to make use of the resources available to me as a PC player hehe (๑`꒳´๑)

Most of the games I do play are simulations, so while I do play vanilla for a while, I eventually mod the game so that I can skip the more tedious aspects of it. Although, this is only for PC; on console, I tend to play games as they're meant to be played unless I've unlocked game-breaking DLC (read: Persona 5 Royal on Switch with Izanagi no Okami(?) and his Myriad Truths)

For the most part, I cheat to save time on games so that I don't waste my free time grinding longer than I want to

I use Fling cheats/use trainers or wemod for singel player Action-Adventures because I want a superior feeling. It's fun. I also used cheats for The Sims 4, to make money unimportant and design my characters, houses and story as I want it.

Cheating in multiplayer games usually no, although I did the crabwalk glitch on rare instances if the other team was also cheating/glitching in Gears of War multiplayer back in the day.

Single player only once and that was in Uncharted where you have bonus modifiers you can buy with points and activate them after you have finished the game.

Rarely, unless I get super, super stuck and need a hint to proceed.
I tried cheating in already finished games and it's just not that fun to me.

I'm just curious really. Do you battle away to succeed or find the answers yourself or, do you go for easier options?

I'll usually try initially to play a game on normal settings and, I'll try to work stuff out myself. After a few failed attempts though or, if I'm becoming frustrated, I'll look for easier options. Sometimes playing on an easier setting. I mostly like to relax with some challenge in a game. It becomes less enjoyable if I keep failing the same part!

Sandbox is usually too boring though. I'm often impressed by how games provide different levels of difficulty to suit the player. Some games though, I wish there was a 'totally incompetent' level to play at! I love the graphics of 'Cuphead' but, I'm so appallingly bad at it, I've gotten next to nowhere in the game.

The internet is also amazing for walk throughs. I'll use them now and again if I'm getting annoyed. Plus, I don't always like jump scares in games. I'd prefer to either know they're coming or, be able to avoid them.

I had so many unfinished games in my youth. No internet back then. Now I've heard there were phone lines you could call back then! That seems like such a funny job: 'Turn to your left at the castle to find the secret entrance. Pick up an extra life at the top of the ladder...'

How about you? Are you a purest that never cheats? Are you an incredible gamer that can battle through without losing a single life or, do you cheat like mad to get on to the next stage?
Never.... Not even once. What's the point?

Almost never. Recently I played Manhunt and it was frustrating as balls, so I started using god mode. The only other game I'm really tempted to cheat in is LET IT DIE, screw that game fr, still cool tho. I do cheese a lot of games tho, like in Morrowind and Dark Souls.

I agree with wanting a "totally incompetent" level sometimes!!!

I do cheat in singleplayer games where it doesn't really matter to anyone besides me and my sense of enjoyment C: I pretty much exclusively play the Sims with cheats on, for example, because all I wanna do in that game is be rich and build crazy houses lol

I only use cheat codes that improve the graphics/visuals of the game or other codes if I am bored of replaying the game normally. I never use cheat codes for online games.

I think cheats, while a bit enjoyable at first, take away fun in gaming in the long term. Their purpose is to enhance the experience, not to make it dull. definitely okay to use them to simplify long and boring tasks or if you are stuck from a long time and need to proceed. Anyway every person can have a different experience with gaming and is free to experiment

I always play on Easy and use cheats in single-player games, because I do not care about any story or missions and want to be done with them as fast as possible. I don't like how almost every game has you being the hero, the chosen, the main character, etc (it makes sense plot wise, ofc, but when you're the world saviour for the 100th time, it gets kind of redundant). I like feeling like a passerby, like a nobody in a huge world. If i buy a game, i want to actually live in it and immerse myself, not do some tedious heroic work for glory and rewards.

I only cheated once, and it was with this 3rd party monster-taming bootleg. It involved convincing monsters to join you by playing a flute.

There was this secret final boss that was literally never meant to be beaten as it'd oneshot every monster ever, but there was this stadium where you can get clones of your friend's monsters, and someone hacked it to get the exact same final boss monster, jacked the stats, and made it fight itself and I won. (Because it was a 3rd party game, they probably didn't realize or didn't know, because the ID was available publicly online)

The final secret boss scene occurs after you beat the final boss and he's on a cliff contemplating suicide and when you talk him out of it he turns into a secret final boss monster. I don't remember if I killed him or he fainted but the cutscene lasted around 10 seconds and the credits played again. But I basically beat up a suicidial guy using his own form.

I basically cheated because the game made me.

Edit: The game is Band of Monsters. Paragraph above with context might not be 1v1 because it's been years since I played it but to reasonably win you still do need to get that cheat boss code in the stadium.

No, I don't have interest or energy for that. A game that I cannot beat without cheats, is a game I don't want to play.

A cheat code that improves graphics? You sure you aren't talking about mods?

Yes, I am sure I am not talking about mods. I am merely talking about cheat codes that can disable subtle annoyances in a game. Such as disable motion blur and bloom for example.

In terms of online games, I never cheat. In terms of single player games, I usually play games on easy mode to both have an easier time with the gameplay and just enjoy the story. If there's an assisted mode in the game, I can use that too. Only use normal mode if it's the lowest option or if I'm ready to focus a bit more on the gameplay. I'm extremely slow with playing through games fully, so I just wanna enjoy the game when I do hop back in, instead of racking my brain over something, usually.
I can use a walkthrough only if I've tried all I can think of and really don't know how to progress a section, but then I only look at the part that I need and then put down the walkthrough and keep playing.
I've used cheats before for single player games if I've found some kind of mechanic stressful, such as removing breaking weapons. But elsewise I try to avoid using a lot of cheats or cheats in general, as they can make the experience boring.

If I may please ask, what genres of games do you usually enjoy playing? I believe there are some games out there in which you, the player, are small in the grand scheme of the events or where you don't play as a grand hero with the mission of saving the world. So if I can think of something based on the genres that you like, I might have some suggestions for you.

Hm, I'd say anything that has an open explorable world. Right now i switch between Avatar frontiers of pandora and Cyberpunk (perfect duo, an absolute Barbieheimer)

Those are nice games! Then I could have some suggestions for you in a couple categories I suppose.
The first one that comes to mind is definitely Outer Wilds if you like space exploration.
And - while you do play as some kind of hero in this one (you're a viking) - Valheim is really fun and has a big open world with bosses along the way.
If you don't mind rather empty open worlds, but ones with a lot of mystery in them, I recommend Shadow Of The Colossus.
And for some shorter experiences with also a more lighthearted tone if that's okay with you - A Short Hike and Little Kitty, Big City are great.
Looking up more games, I also see Kenshi and Kingdome Come: Deliverance being suggested.

I make every game I play as easy as possible for myself, whether through cheats or some other means. I don't play games for a sense of "pride and accomplishmnet" I play them to relax, to feel, to experience, to explore an art form made by artists. I think in some ways, I lose out on a bit of tension that comes from the possibility of failure, but I've never felt the emotional experience was lessened by having an easier experience. Having said all that, I try to not play games that have an explicit "win state"

singleplayer? yeah, usually if it's too hard for me to enjoy, but more usually if i have already played it and i want to fuck around in it.

online? god no, i would rather be shit and have my team make fun of me than to ruin someone's day and make them think it was their fault for being worse at something, i think i cheated once in an online game when i was really young, and i instantly felt so bad i never did it again.

I do a lot of modding, so I use cheats to test things, but for actual gameplay I play legit.
