whenever i drink pepsi, which i try to limit to a few times a month, i get happy as if i took an SSRI which i never tried, but i would imagine.
i know there's many problems with real SSRI's... thats why i always declined them.
but my point is: i almost feel like pepsi adds some kinda "drug" if you will.
it would obviously be good for business to have your product make people happy.

or is it simply only bc i like pepsi so much, that it naturally makes me happy lol?

Doubt they put anti-depressants, but sugar does release dopamine which makes you happy, and the amount of sugar in soft drinks is crazy, so...

You get a similar effect if you eat a load of chocolate too. Although my teeth start to ache if I eat a lot of chocolate nowadays so idk.

No wonder I'm addicted...

There used to be cocaine in the original Coca Cola but, I imagine they would have to declare it in the ingredients if they snuck anything into Pepsi. I'm a big Pepsi fan too, even though I'm sure it's terrible for us.

definitely not, but it'd be funny if they did
in reality it's the sugar + caffeine in it which makes your brain release dopamine

Pepsi contains both caffeine and sugar, which have been shown in many many many studies to cause the brain to release dopamine, which makes you happy. Some people have the same reaction to coffee, others chocolate. If you go further, it's heroin, cocaine, gambling, and porn. The brain craves what makes it feel good.

But seriously dude, just because you like something doesn't mean there is a conspiracy theory and drugs in the water.

No way Pepsico would put any kind of drug like that in their drink and have the price of it be as low as it is... IF they actually put a drug like that in there, you can bet it would be more expensive to drink and people would be happy to pay it.

Could be psychological... could be the sugar rush... could be caffeine. Hard to say. I like sodas, particularly with meals... but they do nothing for me stimulation-wise.

That would be nice... Much cheaper than the 20ml bottle of Lexapro for €40-, every two weeks.

Ah, see, it's a giveaway that you've never taken an SSRI if you think "I get happy as if I took an SSRI" 😁 I'd say Pepsi is much more effective for a quick boost of happiness, because SSRIs don't cause a release of serotonin (or dopamine, etc.)

Coca-Cola has a special arrangement with the government to import coca leaves and denature them for use in their product for flavor. Pepsi is partnered with Senomyx whom claims to have reverse engineered human taste and aroma receptors. A lot of weird stuff falls under the umbrella of "natural and artificial" flavors on product labels without having to be explicity declared. These things probably tickle the brain in weird ways.

I did an MBA analysis on Pepsi. Pepsi co makes money from small volume but high profit and coca cola makes money from high volume low profit. My friend's family actually owns the regional license for Pepsi for half the state.

the disinformation in this thread is off putting.

SSRIs do not give a "happy" feeling. and they don't work instantly. SSRIs work by causing neuronal changes to the brain. the mechanism is relatively unknown, and there are some theories that consider serotonergic firing, desensitization of a serotonin receptor, synaptic changes, or neurotrophic factors. anyways, these changes take time and it's why most people don't see therapeutic effects until weeks after (even then, the SSRI might not be the best medication for them).

honestly, I think the more reasonable answer is just you like Pepsi lol. it makes you happy the same way pizza might make someone happy. your brain considers it as a reward
