This is not a new topic nor new concept, but I feel that it's worth repeating though, especially given the importance and prevalence of such occurrences that still happen around the world (not just limited to the US, but many other countries too). The issue is pertaining to "benevolent paternalism" by many prohibitions, pro-lifers, and preventionists. By that, I mean they do risk and danger assessments while under the guise of looking out for the individual (they are rather disingenuous and insincere of course), but in reality, they are just looking and fishing for information on said person or individual to intervene against said person or individual to prevent CTB at all costs while disregarding circumstances (let alone or even fixing them) surrounding the person's CTB! Most of the time, the issues that push said person or individual to CTB is glossed over, ignored, downplayed, or even pushed towards the person themselves to resolve. It's not like said preventionist or similar people could solve it either, but they like to keep the person with CTB ideation alive against their will under the guise of 'help', when in reality, it is nothing more than just an overreach and overstep of authority, encroachment and impingement on civil freedoms through deceptive pretenses!
Just for the sake of argument, let's presume they 'fixed' whatever cause for said person/individual to want to CTB. There is the cost (be it trauma, inconvenience, and financial burden (applies to the USA mostly, but any other place/country that charges for such), and social or professional consequences) and is oftenly ignored. This is a factor that is not really discussed enough or only merely mentioned and hand waved away quickly, rather than adequately addressed. Of course, as a result, the said person either later goes on to try again (either with success or not, but mostly failure), or even resign themselves to enduring a sentience that they never wanted, which gives the false impression of recovery or getting better (and sadly, these preventionists use that as evidence to further their narrative, but that's another point for another thread!), which is even more disgusting and vile.
Ultimately, I know of not only how disingenuous these preventionists and pro-lifers, and similar people are, but I often get frustrated and disgusted at how deceptive, dishonest, disingenuous they are! Even if they are confronted (similar to how existentialgoof (user on Reddit) confronts them), they deflect towards justifying their behavior to be benevolent, regardless of the real harm (harm to said person's social reputation, professional life (career or job they had), finances, and/or other civil liberties, and more) done to the individual! In a just society, what these CTB preventionists and similar people would (and should) have been charged with various crimes including harassment, kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault and battery, and even fraud (in some cases), and more, but alas, we don't live in such a world. It is a shame that there isn't real justice and the real victims of these kinds of situation are oftenly the pro-choicers who end up having to go all about it in secrecy (whether it be acquisition of materials for method, planning, waiting and finally attempting, which could either result in success of failure dependent on method choice), while also dealing with existing problems that cause them to want to CTB to begin with!
