Could I hang myself if I hooked something onto this hole and tied a rope to it

Maybe, it depends on lots of things. What's on the other side? If it's a beam how strong is it. What kind of hook? Will it hold your weight for a half an hour. Etc

If the attic is above it, I would aim for your hook to go in one of the joists (wood). Otherwise it will be in insulation and drywall ceiling, which will absolutely not hold you.
