I can think of many reasons why he did it. Might be health issues or he just got tired of bullshit that goes behind the show business. Big reason why famous people kill theirselves is that once you are in the business long enough, it will get ruined for you forever because you realize the finished product that people see is just a fantasy that does not exist in reality.

I find it interesting that the recent celebrity suicides were done by slightly inconvient methods, hanging and cutting. Seems like with all the money access to guns and lethal medications would make it easier. Maybe just goes to show that when you're really at that point it's less about fear and more about escaping life by any means.
