hey all,

this may be a silly question but i haven't been able to find reliable info online and wanted to get some opinions. i am a 6'2" 210lb guy and i have three different ceiling fans on 10 foot ceilings in my apartment and i don't know if they could hold that amount of weight. are all fans built with the ability to hold the same amount of weight? i know people have successfully done the deed with their ceiling fans but i am terrified of falling and making a ton of noise/ruining my ceiling as i am in an upper level unit. my building was built within the last three months so everything is literally brand new and they all look very sturdy and well mounted if that makes any difference. thank you for reading and sending you all peace and love <3

I don't know...
I don't think they are made to support weight other than the fan.
It might depend on how it is attached to the ceiling. I know there are wires. I don't know the name of the box or whatever it's called.
It may depend on the type of fan also.
FYI.... I have seen alot of fans come crashing down on Ridiculousness... 😉
Also how strong are the bars in the closet? Maybe that is a better option. 🤗
Looking at ceiling fan images ... I don't know....
You could check out the one you have. I just don't think they are strong enough.🤗

What kind of hinges and supports does the fan use?

well it's hard to tell, it's just a rather large silver cylinder with nothing really exposed connected flush to the ceiling, nothing really sticks out or anything. when the fan is off, i have tried to "wiggle" it with my hands and it seems very strong and it doesn't budge whatsoever

the ceilings probably gonna collapse on you or something. not worth using a ceiling fan.

The fans can probably support you.
It depends on the quality and mounting of the box in the ceiling.
Some will pull right out. Some will hold.

I think it depends a lot on the country you're in and the relevant regulations. From what I remember from my trip to Sri Lanka and also in India, the fans are more robust because they have heavy cast iron motors and then have to be secured to the beams with iron brackets. They don't have anchors like ours because they have the problem of undulating movement 24/7, 365 days a year because they're always on. They're not like us, where we have seasons.
