Backup to exit bag

I have everything I need for an exit bag; even have two supplies in case one stops working early. My biggest fear with this method is something going wrong (O2 getting in somehow, gas running out early...) and ending up a vegetable or brain damaged. Does anyone know the effects of doubling up with other methods? I was thinking cutting a vein or two, or taking a pack of codeine (not enough to kill outright, but hopefully would speed up death).
Again though, my fear is that these may interfere. For example what if it slows my body's oxygen consumption so much that I survive the 20 min of inert gas?

My ideal has always been a shotgun but it's impossible in my current situation to get one.

What I like about this method is it kind of has a built in backup - a bag over your head, my thinking is so long as I make sure the bag is secure and air tight then even if I only get to the vegetable/brain dead stage well I'm not live very long like that with a bag over my head.
