After the initial few rounds I often feel like I do better in competitive games after a few weeks off.

I've played 1000+ hours, hate the game. There have been a few times that I have enjoyed it, but the overwhelming amount of time, literally 95%+ I don't. I play it because was something that I knew, something that was bearable, like the comfort of what you know, just like an abusive partner. When ever I played I wouldn't give a shit, most the time I would just bait retards into cooldowns on alts. Could have been playing it as a way of self-harm, as a way of distraction. But seriously, fuck that game.

You make those two weeks sound like two years. I'd just jump straight in.
Worst case, you'll drop a rank before slowly starting to climb again.

Maybe run a few casual games or whatever routine you like, to warm up your muscle memory, but there's no reason to expect any significant skill drop.

I guess you could play a different mode? Like, for example if you mostly play premier then do some standard comp to get back into things? I swear there used to be a way to play comp without it effecting your level, like a kind of unranked version or smth.

they removed I from cs2, idk why, prob due to skill gaps, and casual has mostly become a large bot farm. only way I can have fun now is to play on private servers with friends, but I really want to get back in comp

I got 4300 hours in that game but have become sick of it so I will stick with singleplayer games for some time, I usually play a lot and then take 6-12 months breaks because the game overstimulates me and I get too addicted to it but eventually I get too sick of it and need a break because of toxic players, cheaters and bugs in the game.

But to get back into it depending on your skill level of course but what I usually do is practice 10-30 minutes a day on aim such as spray control in workshop maps you can download that will help you with spray pattern (it helps A LOT!!!) and practice headshots on the workshop map Aim_Bots, in that same map I like to practice counter-strafing also known as AD/ADDS movements that is the hardest part after this I would jump into deathmatch to try the spray and counter-strafing on real players that move around.

I would usually also practice a little utility like a few important smokes on the maps I play the most and when I get more into it I would eventually know smoke line-ups on every map and a few flashes and HE line-ups as well this helps a lot and makes the game way more fun imo when you know basic smoke line-ups and after this just jump into prem, comp or face-it I usually practice these things while just playing some matches here and there and at the very least practice aim the workshop maps before starting my first game again, hope this helps a bit.

I just play arms Race and deathmatch, and ocasionally casual. I don't like competitive, I just want to have fun it's not like I want to become professional or anything. Also I just don't like the new mechanics.

Oh boy 1.6 is so dope, we still play here in South America. Also I love Source, had so much fun in It.

I play it quite a bit recently. It's hard for new comers to get hooked into it or even just enjoy it though cuz new accounts will encounter a lot of other new accounts and that's mostly where all the hackers are. I know this because I made a new account and even bought prime because I wanted to get back into it after not playing it since 2018 and not have to go into my old account which would suck cuz I would be matched with higher elo players. Every single game on the new account whether it's competitive or premier, there is always a hacker. Then I logged into my old account and I haven't encountered 1 single hacker yet.
I still play on the new account whenever I don't feel like trying or something like that, and yup there are hackers every game.
It's gotta do with the account's trust factor and it's a hell of a grind to get it up there so there aren't any hackers...

I only played up to, like, 300–500 hours or so, if I'm not mistaken, and I'm grateful I could only get that far… yeah, even though my Steam account got wrecked in the end too—such a shame about the prime stats and skins that I could've sold again. But whatever, as long as my mental health's intact ​
