You know the field of psychiatry has gone too far when it starts to pathologize things that are or were always a part of human nature. I'm not going to go as far as to say that everything in field is illegitimate, but when it overreaches and slaps a label on just about every naturally occurring behavior and start to demonize and make issues of what isn't an issue to begin with (in order words really going down the Orwellian route hard), then it stops becoming legitimate and should be open to scrutiny.
