like sorry what it going on? why do people always blame the victim? dont they see we are not weak we have simply been strong through too much and been pushed over the edge? like when your suicidal they make out like its not rational but often its the most rational thing? im just pissed at people referring to me as weak when they dont have a clue what my experience is? like its fine and well when your life is ok to get on your high horse and call other weak for breaking at some point?? and like suicide is fucking hard if you actually attempt fml you have to push past the deepest primal instincts wtf

I've always found them RIDICULOUS.
I'm not telling everyone to CTB but the person who dares to go for it, has way MORE GUTS THAN THOSE THAT CRITICIZE THEM.

They think you're a coward because you can't go on living, but they don't realize it's easier to pretend to be an NPC like them and just ignore this nonsense existence.

Nowadays, I just laugh at them because there's no way they will ever understand the hell we are going through to make such decision.

Society wants people alive, it pushes the agenda that your life is worth living, and thinking the opposite is an issue. Which, that's true, nobody wants to reach the point of thinking about ctb, and the people who do would much prefer to be able to be somewhat happy and content with life. In general. But I believe society pushes this narrative because of work ethics. If you push yourself at your job, even if it's minimum wage or such, you're seen as brave and useful. They need the working force. If you are lazy, or slow, which can be from personal issues or simply mental illness, you are seen as dead weight. You'll be encouraged (encourage is a big word, it's often bullying) to do better and follow the group. So I imagine ctb is the final step of said laziness and imagine of 'giving up'.
Also people believe it's selfish to leave others behind, and lots of other moral arguments. And that's a whole other discussion, and each person is allowed their opinion. Sadly one that people find taboo, or at least from my experience of life, is that as a human and living breathing soul you should be allowed full control over you life. To peacefully leave, or stay. The sheer fact ctb is illegal is mind-blowing to me. In some countries you get fined and locked up for trying, as if that will help?

But meh I'm ranting.

it all depends on your frame of reference

if you are looking at it in terms of evolutionary biology, then the strong survive and weak die and therefore suicide is weak

if you are looking at it in terms of using will power to overcome survival instinct to end pain, then suicide takes a lot of will power and that involves strength

it probably doesn't matter, in a way, things are just as they are and it's not like "weakness" is inherently better than "strength" because free will is an illusion and the universe is deterministic

Some people have no empathy, no ability to put themselves in other's shoes. It sucks, I wish people were more considerate :[

They call it "weak" because that is their cope. There are many defenses people take that boil down to a sentiment they need to repeat to themselves to cope, but really it holds no light to reality.

I think that this world pushes a particular vision of what strength is at the expense of others.

I think because most people are just evil. The country i come from and the people i grew up with, most are so comically and relentlessly evil it qualifies for a very bad movie.

I made the mistake of calling my ex partner weak for committing suicide. Well, not straight up. I compared dick sizes on who suffered more than who and implied that she's weak for kicking her bucket. I don't think I can ever forgive myself for this behavior and thought process. I was so angry I told her that she's selfish for wanting to die. It made me feel like everything I've done for her doesn't mean a thing--because to me, right, if I do mean something to her and everything that I've done for her mean something to her, then she would persevere and return my gestures.

All of the promises she's made to me, she would stick by them. But she didn't and I got so fucking angry. Even after she died, I'm still angry.

I agree with User111885, it truly depends on how you look at it. I tried to talk to her, asked her why she'd like to do it, told her that there are other ways but she didn't heed any of my words. Then again, it was after we broke up and after we had a huge fight--over this exact topic.

Best way to handle this subject is to just treat it like any other subject without humiliating/insulting the other person for choosing to CTB. I was wrong and it cost us all her life. I failed her.

I always wonder this. Especially as a woman I think the word weak is used so much more for men than women. Which is stupid because whatever you identify as if you've been traumatized or have a chemical imbalance in your brain all being out of your control then how are you weak? People don't call physically disabled people weak to their face I'D KNOW. When it comes to my physical disabilities I'm told I'm strong for doing simple things with my body fighting against me but whenever my mind is fighting against me I am told I need to 'not be a coward' or 'stop being silly' as though I can just switch off my brain. It's so infuriating because if anything my mental health inhibits my ability to do things more than my physical issues do.

I do think what people see in the media (tv shows and movies) may also play a role in how people react to mentally ill people opening up. I can't even utter the word suicide without people thinking they need to call the emergency services. Which is so stupid because sometimes I just want to express how I'm feeling. But clearly people have seen stuff on tv and think suicide must mean I'm going to jump in front of the next bus I see. They see people in media doing it to run away from problems and automatically think thats the cause of wanting to ctb. Leading them to associate it with cowardliness or weakness. People just don't accept mental ilness can be debilitating in the same way physical alements can be. It's exhusting when I'm having to tell professinals myself why its so hard for me to do things.
