i am no poet, but I wanted to write down my feelings, to be sure about them.
Here is my first attempt:
A good death
What will it be like to die?
Some people die without ever knowing their life was ending.
For the unprepared, dying may be a shock.
For those in pain, a welcome relief.
Death is inevitable,
but I am prepared.
I welcome being dead.
I only fear a painful death.
I do not want to die of old age.
I do not want to die from illness.
I do not want to die in hospital.
I do not want to die alone.
I hope to be fully aware of my death.
I want to know that this really is the end.
I want to feel, a least for a few moments,
the weight of responsibilities and expectations lifted.
I want to consciously accept my death.
and experience the release of dying.
I want to feel my life fading away.
I want to die with a smile on my face.
