Animals get to die when they have no hope. Why is it different for us? My parents have caused themselves more pain and hardship trying to "save" me than it would have taken to just let me drown, or better yet, help me out. Everyone would be happier that way. They claim all they want for me is to be happy, but the closest thing to happiness I can get is dying. I have nothing to look forward to, no prospects, no talents, no friends, yet they insist on dragging me along, Instead of letting me drown, they pull me up and let me breathe for a few seconds as soon as it looks like I'm going to drown. It's an analogy, of course, but keeping somebody on the verge of drowning is called waterboarding, and its considered torture. Please just let me drown, or better yet, come and do it yourself.

Think because humans don't like terminating one of their own

I think it's much easier to tell whether an animal is out of hope. Hopelessness can be much more subjective for humans. Specially when we suffer mental health problems

Animals don't pay taxes nor do they have the potential to do so

Animals die when we decide to kill them. Either mercifully, because it looks like they are in pain. Either because people can't afford the vet bill or, the animal can't be rehomed. Lots of animals are euthanized at shelters. Especially problematic, 'bully' breeds. We also kill animals in the billions because we enjoy eating them. Horses who can no longer run for our entertainment are literally refered to as 'waste'. We're also ok with killing off 'pest' animals in their billions.

I completely agree that in certain circumstances, we are merciful and kind to animals- when it suits us. It's always murder though- we can hardly ask the animal's permission. How many animals kill themselves in nature? Very few. Even with the most severe injuries. So, why would we actually assume that's what they want? It's what we've decided is best for them.

I do utterly agree though- that we should show the same mercy to humans, who do have the ability to voice their wishes.

However, what if some of the ways we treat animals starts crossing over? Surely, our governments consider certain demographics of humans to be 'pests'. I imagine anyone who takes more money than they put in could potentially be targetted. The homeless, the unemployed, the old, the ill. I'm not surprised people are nervous about that happening.

Of course, it won't be anything blatant. They won't round them off to death camps. But surely, they can cut their benefits to such a degree that they'll go there willingly.

Not necessarily, Chinese Uyghur's are herded into 're-education camps', wouldn't be surprised if the camps use death when they can't 're-educate'

I understand, it's just so cruel and dreadful to me how there isn't the option to just peacefully cease existing and never suffer ever again with the suffering and torture of human existence seen as to force and prolong no matter what instead, all I wish for is to never exist ever again, I just wish for the peace of an eternal dreamless sleep where all is finally gone.
