what is sn and where to find it

i keep hearing about it in suicide discussion. from what i can tell it's used to CTB? how is it to find and what about it makes people here mention it as much as hanging?

it's "popular" because PPH mentions this method as peaceful ctb, but also it's very accessible to gen your hands on SN
