I'm not talking about really broad and basic stuff I want to get very specific here. I think a lot of the problems with people's conjuration of the afterlife is that it is very self centered and does not take into account the needs of all people. So what afterlife would you create which respects the wishes of the most people possible? The people who want to meet dead relatives/friends, the people who want to live out their maladaptive daydreams, the people who want void, etc.?

Probably one in which people's dearest fantasies get realized.

But how long would that be satisfying for?

Ideally, for me, none at all. Consciousness in any form is exhausting. I couldn't imagine an eternal one, no matter how divine it would be.

This life could already be amazing. Most of us that hate it, either have bad circumstances or chemical imbalances. I think most annoying thing is that everything is optimalized for survival, homeostasis is a bich when you just want to dissociate, but can't anymore. You are building a tollerance for anything pleasant over time. It would also be nice if you could turn off pain, that is useless. Pain is an information, but example when you have a chronic pain, you really don't need it all the time. If you can't find a girlfriend and you know you won't be able in the future, it would be nice if you could make your brain stop biching about it.

If our brains were wired for user experience, life would be much more digestible.

That I think is a reason people can't imagine afterlife being satisfying long term. Because our current brains just aren't built for that. But in reality nihilism is only depressing when you have no serotonine and dopamine.

Exactly- this is one of the problems I have with the afterlife. Take my own family. My Mum died when I was 3 and my Dad remarried. So- will both Mum's want to share my Dad in heaven? Obviously not. I'd rather never see my step family again. So- a heaven would effectively have to be created for each of us with duplicate people in, plus and minus the people we want to avoid. Some of those people made life a living hell for me. I'd consider going to hell if it meant avoiding them!

Truthfully, I simply can't even envisage a heaven where we would all retain the quirks of our characters and we would all live happily. Especially not forever!

The nicest thing I can imagine is a brief reunion. Some nice hugs, a few tears and then, fade into nothing. The moment we would start talking about our lives, I think we'd start hurting one another (emotionally.)

The alternative I suppose is that we would experience a form of living that we can't even comprehend now. One that is purely about experiencing joy and, where we can't be hurt at all. That seems so far removed from our human experience though, it's hard to relate to. It's maybe hard to even want long-term. Maybe to just experience briefly would be good but, could we even have a sense of self and be entirely happy I wonder. What would life be like without an ego?

Life but without responsibilities. Absolute freedom to do what you want for eternity. I think anything which is "illusion" or otherwise controls the will of people would just be too fake.
